My partner once got a great opportunity in NYC but I wanted to stay in Tokyo. We did long distance for a year until we got to the point where we had to make a final decision: me moving to NYC or he coming back to Tokyo. He came back :-)

like

I've been together with my boyfriend just over 3 years and 2.5 yrs of that has been long-distance. We've been saying he's going to come move to NY for the past 2 yrs. My advice: set a firm date and mean it.

Which city?

What about somewhere that has similar lifestyle appeal, but also good agencies - Portland maybe? Austin? Bay Area? Does your partner have a job in CO he loves? My partner wants to move to New England (his family is moving there) - so I’m going along even though my job is super solid where we are. But we are married and have 2 kids so... possibly different scenario!

Moved to LA to help my career and my partner came with. We agreed it’s temporary, I’m getting as much experience as possible, and we’ll move back in a few years after sucking as much life out of this city as I can. Relationships are all about compromise. I compromise by agreeing to move back eventually, they compromise by doing a few years in a city they don’t like so I can get the experience I want.

I’m confused. I was furloughed from a regional firm, and I’m scared of being laid off. I have an offer from a small cpa firm and an offer from a mid tier firm. My goal has always been to join b4, and I’m going to try when the hiring freeze (HF) is lifted...but what should I do right now? 1. Stay at regional, apply to b4 after HF 2. Take mid tier offer, apply to b4 after HF 3. Take small firm offer, apply to b4 after HF 4. Take mid tier offer, become senior, and then apply to b4 2 years later

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.

Recently laid off at a small gov contracting firm (non cyclical to this economy). My wife and I are expecting and thankfully live below our means. She has a great job too, thankfully…How should I maximize my severance and what should I ask for beyond cash? They offered 2 months of cash and my stock paid out. I was employed for 2 years. They at one point extended the potential of partnership and I’d like more, and they have the money. Should I ask for lump sum or spread it out?

My wife was informed a few weeks ago that she would be laid off as of end of year. She signed the paperwork and will be receiving a decent severance due to her tenure there. Now the company is saying they may have some other work for her to do for a few months and they could extend her contract if interested. If she says no, is she still eligible for her severance since she already signed her paperwork?

When should I start applying to full-time positions if I graduate in December 2022? I currently have an internship this summer in consulting at IBM. And last summer I interned at the Federal Reserve doing compliance and digital transformation. I don't know if I will return to IBM, but I will decide on that based on the experience I have at the internship. However in the mean time I want to explore and see what other opportunities there are. Any advice on when and where to apply for full-time?

Wondering if that could be related to seniors/mids wanting to hit billable targets for themselves?
