Got my first regular paycheck at the new job at 145k vs 110k and its not nearly as much more as I thought it would be - is that normal? Feeling discouraged and like I need to make significantly more to really move the needle

You could use a little perspective.

$1 is a lot of money if you use it the right way.

Try minimalism or stepping back from consumerism.

Try traveling to a poor country to see how good you have it.

Try charity to see what blessings/karma you get back.

Try auditing your expenses and considering what it takes to get the next income tier.

Try setting goals and see how fast they realize.

A little perspective goes a long way.

You are assuming quite a few things about me without any background..

Wifes a public servant who loves her job but pay is nothing to write home about. We arent out here throwing money around and we obviously realize that we have it better than most. This post was strictly about noting the difference in take home pay at a higher salary

Check your paystub and compare to a prior paystub. What was the change in health plan cost? Double check your W4 and that your tax withholding election makes sense. Did you change your retirement contribution %?

So much can be learned from the paystub. Agree with others above, it should be noticeable. But there are a lot of players here that can impact take-home pay.

Very helpful! I will do this, and yes I did change my contribution to max out 401k vs contributing about 13% before hand.

Thanks to everyone here! Also think some ofbit comes from HHI is right around 200k, which is by no means low and I recognize that we are better off than most, but not quite at a level where I wont be worrying about money or anything

Should be an extra $1500-2000/mo more after tax, no?

Isn’t this close to 1k more a paycheck ?

Looking for a nice looking, sturdy, comfortable to carry travel duffel with a cross body strap. I always travel with my Louis Vuitton Keepall 55 bandoulière as a carry on, with mainly my shoes and handbags in it - but i took her in to LV for a repair and due to supply issues she will sadly not be back in time for my trip to Italy in September. (The repair may take 10 months, WTF!) I would appreciate any recommendations, and would love for it to be similar in size to the Keepall 55.
