If you expressed your desired range, and they came back with $30k-$40k less, do you think pushing will change the offer? I’m not being sarcastic, and yes that is a lowball offer. I just wonder if this agency doesn’t value the position as much as others. It’s one thing to be $10k off...but $40k.
You were asking for a perfectly acceptable range for ACD. So they either don’t value you as an applicant or they actually can’t afford it. If it’s the former, it could be that they are a REALLY desirable shop. But unless it’s one of the top 5, don’t take it. Don’t go to a place where they don’t think you’re worth what YOU think you’re worth.
Perspective: I’m making 70 more than that in a MUCH smaller market
What market?
I wouldn’t take it based on the offer unless they were willing to budge. Thats a senior salary and pretty offensive
WAY low. Think about what the absolute lowest is that you can agree to before you go back, because if they up the offer once, that might be it - but this is insulting based on your range and the title. I’d go back and say thank you so much, but I require $x minimum in order to accept this role. Factor whatever other perks they may have, how good the work can potentially be and how good the shop’s name is for your resume. Maybe talk to whoever your potential new boss will be as well as the recruiter. I just accepted an ACD role at a small shop for $175. You’re not crazy
I was very lucky. No negotiations. But they already knew me from previous freelance work. In previous jobs I’ve gone a couple. But honestly they’re lowballing you so hard that I don’t think they’re being respectful. Other things you can ask for: more vacation, review/potential increase in 6 mos, signing/annual bonus. And benefits matter. At w+k they’re probably worth another $20k
Ya that’s low. I got 150 as a senior and 175 as a starting acd salary. I wouldn’t accept less than 160 at the very lowest. Also the 150 included relo. Don’t let them use that against you. If they’re lowballing you because they’re paying for the move then they’re not paying for the move, you are.
Very low
Did they offer an explanation? I agree with the rest here, you could do much better money wise as an ACD. Sounds like a Senior salary to me.
NYC is expensive and stressful. Ask for more money.
Don’t take it
It’s pretty damn low for an ACD.
But if you really want to get to New York, ask for a signing bonus and guarenteed yearly bonus if you’re planning on hanging out for a while.
Low.
You told them your number, they came back with theirs.... so meet in the middle—or play with PTO, sick vacation time, are they offering a matched 401k? Negotiation are not over—put everything on the table at this point. Finish line is in the horizon, don’t throw in the towel now
I make 120 as a senior (6 yrs)
I’m blown away that 130k is low for this position, but that’s just me. I chose a smaller agency in NYC, which means sure, salaries are a bit lower...but we make great work, the company gives a shit about you and your well being, and the people are incredibly talented. Of course I’d like more money, but the inherent perks almost make up for it.
Basically, if you see yourself going far at this new job, sometimes the cultivation you’ll receive is worth more than a paycheck.
