Had my first round “interview”…

It ended up being a live case study. Ultimately I didn’t end up hating it because the revelation was I wasn’t a good fit for the role. They were looking for somebody with more predictive modeling experience.

Honestly I’m not opposed to doing live case studies if it expedites the process.

Got laid off couple of weeks back. I was part of a hot offering. Here are two options I able after couple of interviews:

a) contracting with one of our ex-client (worked with them a year back) - pays 4x of my last salary;
b) full time offer with niche consulting firm (#3 in this area..#1 is Deloitte, #2 is Accenture- 55% higher than last role)

My idea consulting exit as per my career plan would be a
1) PM role in some enterprise software company, or
2) something in MBBs.

I'm planning to have a serious discussion about compensation with my boss during EOY reviews. No raises since joining 3 years ago & am trying to get a realistic idea of what to ask for. Context: Class of 2016 at boutique business lit firm in HCOL SoCal; 86k salary; 1500 hours; no 401k; no remote. I handle my own caseload & supervise associates. Firm does not give annual raises. Quality of work isn't an issue. I like my firm/boss & would prefer not to leave if possible. Appreciate any insight!

Took an offer with a competitor because I was not feeling my team anymore. Got recommended by an ex-manager who brought me in, coached me and red carpeted my interview process. Very grateful!

My company countered when I gave my 2 weeks & switched me into a different division. Now I want to stay, since I always loved my company (just not that dept) and I got a promo.

How do I salvage the relationship with the ex-manager? Desperate to not burn this bridge as they are truly a wonderful person.

How much is typical severance pay if laid off? I’ve heard of numbers between 1 and 6 months but interested in personal anecdotes. For context I’m a mid level associate, so been with my firm for a few years. Haven’t been laid off yet but it’s likely to come in the next couple of months. It wouldn’t be due to COVID and therefore wouldn’t be part of a mass layoff - rather, due to a mix of good and bad reviews and due to the group being slower (even pre-COVID) so my hours are consistently lower.
