There's a ping pong table in the office, there's beer on fridays and maybe even every day at 5, free food sometimes and direct exposure to "senior" leadership. Aka all the shit that will change once they run out of seed money.

It won't hurt it. If you are successful it could help it.

And am afraid that both working for a new firm without a reputation and leaving Deloitte after only one year will hurt my chances at a top school. Thoughts?

No they wont

Do it. And if it fails then get the MBA. Great story for apps. If to succeeds keep crushing it and maybe do an exec MBA or part time MBA. I strongly suggest the full time if you are looking to reset or change companies/industries.

Define a "way better culture"..if it's a start up, I find it hard to believe the culture is really locked down already...a few fresh new faces can change the entire dynamic.

D3- effectively what EY1 said although they are an established enough start up to be running on profit. The firm almost exclusively recruits out of my undergrad so I already have many friends there. Since it's small there's stronger camaraderie between peers and you can actually see the effects of your hard work on the company rather than just the project. Plus there's unlimited remote work with flexible hours so I could travel completely freely instead of being slave to the Mon-Thur consultant grind. I guess I've just always been told that leaving your firm before you're even done with your analyst year reflects poorly on your commitment unless you're moving to a highly reputable company (I.e. MBB, PE, VC, etc)

Go for it OP. You'll regret it if you don't get in early. You can always go back to Deloitte.

Go for it!! Are they still hiring???

What are some good child care options for single parents? Have a toddler that is in preschool, but need to think about child care after school. Currently have my parents helping out with the child care, but they are not a long-term solution. Don’t know what my options are… especially when I have to travel in the future. Thinking about au pair as it seems like a cost effective solution, but wondering what other options are?

Confession: I wish there were more minorities working at the firms and clients. I am so sick and tired of acting all “corporate” and feeling like everything just has to be serious all the time. I have worked with minorities in other jobs before and it is always so much more of a collective culture as opposed to an individualistic culture (speaking purely from my own personal experiences and anecdotes).
