Got offered $75k to leave to a smaller firm. Current salary is $69,500 as a 1st year senior associate. I feel like $75k isn’t quite enough to make me leave. Any suggestions on how to negotiate ?

What location? $70k is insanely low for a senior. I wouldn’t leave for a $5k raise, after tax that’s not much.

Texas

Don’t leave for 5k raise in smaller company. Ask if they can offer you over 80k. If not just walk away from the offer. If they want u they will match contact you back. Also cite with current inflation this is lower pay. Just think about it- your pay increase of 5% will just cover increase in inflation.

like

Let them know you appreciate the offer but you would like $80k.. something like this “ Thank you for the offer but I will like to counter-offer with $80k”

How many years of experience do you have ? Are you a CPA ?

like

100% true SM! As an S3 last year I was at 76k in HCOL

In Texas at GT I am making ~$80K as an S3 for reference. If you’re looking to leave and they won’t increase base, you could always push for a sign on bonus of $10K. it’s cash in hand immediately which imo is better especially if you’re not a lifer. Typically you just have to stay a year to not have it clawed back.

Kpmg offered me $75k for associate 2 role.

I cant believe audit salary is still so low.

Ask GT to match! They don’t want to loose you

I second this

I think your be aboce $75k with these mid year raises tbh

Get your CPA and then go to market. I've heard GT is adjusting A2 and Seniors Salary starting January 2022.

If you are happy where you are, don't make the move. Lateral hires at that level aren't as respected as those that started with the firm. But if you need a change, obviously go for it.

I'm being asked to return to the office. I was hired as a contractor for a remote position and then hired on as a permanent employee. I was told I would continue to work remotely but that was not mentioned in my offer letter. I'm now required to commute 1and 1/2 hours one way to the office 5 days a week. Should I ask for a pay increase to offset the cost of this added expense? Should I point out how valuable I am to the team and how losing me would be unfortunate?

Will McKinsey & Company have a case interview portion during the recruiter screening for an Associate-level opening. This is my first interview with them.
The recruiter mentioned that it will only be an audio (Zoom) call, not a video interview. I sort of assumed that there won't be a case interview portion because it is an audio interview with the recruiter. Is my assumption true? I don't want to ask the recruiter with the interview coming up in the next 2-3 days, as it might set a bad opinion.

Really looking for some genuine support and advice from you all out there. I want to switch careers from PA - Big4 Audit to completely different. I am not talking about going in industry or other accounting / finance related jobs. I am thinking on lines of getting some small franchise, flip houses, real estate agent, manager as Dunkin etc type of transition. I am okay not making big $. Please don’t say do what I am passionate about because clearly I don’t know what it is and I am in search of it

What do you do with a Staff with ~1 year exp that legit won’t work. For example, you give them a simple task at 10am that should take 3 hours max, they ignore your check-in messages and then ask if they can give it you in the morning. They never ask questions. Morning comes and they still didn’t do it. When they finally do it, it is riddled with errors and clearly shows they didn’t try. Working under tight deadlines, this staff is killing me as I cannot rely on them at all. What would you do?

Hi all! What’s a decent hike in salary when switching companies? I have been offered one level title as well. Please advise me.

Bit of background: I recently turned 25, have been an auditor now for 4 years (same firm from intern to staff to senior), and have given my firm and my clients 110% of me at all times.
Lately, I’ve been wanting to quit altogether (burning out) and try out a career that has always been more of a “dream”. I can’t be the only one feeling this way so I’m reaching out to my people - is this just a weird quarter-life crisis or is it actually valid & reasonable?
