With the company being new, do you expect to hold a lot of responsibility and need to put in a lot of work? The 30% increase in salary may be coming with a lot more of a burden on your shoulders, so definitely take that into consideration. Also, I would be making sure the company is going to be able to keep you on long term, even if there isn’t so much room for “progression” in the traditional sense. They may be trying to just pick someone up for a short period and let you go once their initial growing period is up. That’s what I can think of from the information you’ve given here.

thank you so much for the insightful response. when i asked about the long term their response was that i would be an employee under their already successful business and i could keep a position there. idk how true that is but yeah also need to find out how much work and how many hours i would be taking on

Ask about benefits. If you lose 20 days a year of PTO, a 401k match of 6%, and $10,000 worth of health insurance and life insurance benefits then it's not really a 30% pay increase! Also... remember bonuses aren't guaranteed and they'll most likely not pay a big one for 2020, as you were new & came in after half way through the year...so you might not see the bonus they entice you with until Dec 2021/Jan 2022. One last thing, if you currently like your boss(es) (senior or manager you report to most) and don't hate what you do, it'd be nice to have 2 years and a promotion at your first company sitting on your resume. If possible.

Thank you so much for this response. This gives me plenty of things to think about and ask questions that i wasn’t even thinking about!

If you are new you probably don’t make too much already. Th 30% of not too much is really not too much. Take this time to consider what your end game is and how this current job will help you progress in your career. Is this job in public? If so the experience you will get is the same / similar. It’s definitely worthwhile getting at least 2-3 years of public accounting experience before moving to industry. I haven’t updated my profile but I did 6 years in public and switched directly as a controller of a tech company and making 75% more of my manager salary. Feel free to DM me if you wanna talk more details

Just say no to small companies. You’re equally likely to end up suing them than not.

I’m on the verge of closing out a final interview where my salary will go from $70k base/no bonus to $105k base+10% bonus. My title will go from senior analyst to manager. However, I’m going from Accenture to a startup that got acquired (has $2 bn parent company so bankruptcy isn’t going to happen) and I’ll be going from working with a young crowd to older people. I wouldn’t hit the comp the startup is offering for at least 3-4 yrs if I stayed at Accenture. Any advice/thoughts?

How do people save for a down payment on a house? My SO and I make a combined 130k salary, currently rent a 1br apt for $2250/mo, have other debts of 600/mo and 15k in savings. Neither of us have been able to save much since we started to rent the apt (6 months ago). I want to stop "wasting" money on rent and build equity in a home, lay down roots, start a family, but I feel I/we will never be able to save enough for a down payment (NY prices, 400-500k). Starting to feel hopeless &stretched thin

Hey everyone! I have been working at a small firm for 10 years. Specifically, work comp, PI, and social security. I often feel like I don't get enough money for everything I do. Anyone else feel this way? I do paralegal work, legal assistant work, legal billing, accounts receivable, etc. for three Attorney's. We do Claimant work and Defense.

When would be a good time for me to leave my current role? Only concerned bc I’ve had 5 jobs in the past 5 years. - Job 1: ~2.5 years - Job 2: ~1 year - Job 3: ~1 year - Job 4: ~7 months (could possibly leave off resume?) All F500 companies. I plan to stick it out here for at least a year to keep my sign-on bonus but I know I don’t like it. Also don’t want it to look bad on my resume. I originally planned for 3-5 years here but there’s no way.
