Got onboarded to PM a project pretty close to go-live. This is my first PM role and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and not sure where to start. How do I understand which status each stream is currently at? What’s the scope of deliverables and what to focus on? Client are driving busy work and a lot of streams are verbally reporting as red, but no idea of the overall status. Would really appreciate advice/help/tips and frameworks to get clarity. Thank you!

I was just told by my manager that taking a 2 week vacation would look bad while staffed on a client project. I’ve already been on this project for over a year and another extension is coming. Take 1week, he said. My husband and I planned to travel to Europe from the west coast which is expensive and time consuming. We don’t want to limit ourselves to 1 week. Has anyone else run into this type of situation? Can management really dictate how long you can get away - if you have the days accrued?

I’m an experienced hire, and I’m reporting to someone younger than me, who I clearly have more experience than, how do I deal with this?

Left Deloitte for greener pastures about 3 years ago. When I joined another company after my departure, the partner from the project which fed into my decision me to leave D was stalking my LinkedIn profile. Now that I’m at McK he is still stalking my LinkedIn profile. Again, this person’s behavior played a significant role in my decision to depart D. Should I reach out to him in a friendly way to probe/see what he wants? is his behavior strange? He didn’t seem to care about me when I was @ D.

Strategy projects are highly sought after but tiring as hell..wtf…finally got what I wanted but I feel so burnt out. Any advice on how to excel as an analysts/associate on a first pure strategy project?

If my spouse and I are confined to the same small apartment, how can I prevent disclosure of the client name when I have to refer to it on calls?

Who signs up to be HR? Is it just people who couldn’t get another job or are some people genuinely passionate about it? I just can’t imagine why anyone would want to be a HR person, it sounds like a miserable role.

Recently put in my 2 weeks. My manager (who I’ve butted heads with since starting this project 5 months ago) asked for the most thorough and comprehensive KT plan I’ve ever seen. Part of which is asking me what my plan is for actions/deliverables that are due through the next 60 days. She also made this request late in my notice period and is hounding me for it daily. Thoughts on how to push back professionally? As much as I hate it here I still don’t want to burn any bridges.

How do you deal with feeling guilty for leaving your current job in the middle of a project? I just got a job offer, but I’m in the middle of a big project and we just lost another staff member to a different firm. Im not unhappy with my current job, but this new job has a lot of pros that are making me want to leave.

How would you guys describe your work life balance? Do you have a 9-5 year round? Or you don’t end work until 6/7pm often but don’t mind it? Or have busy seasons during the year that put you off?

Entitlement in consulting is REAL!

Last year, My girlfriend was making 80k while I was making 200k so I took her out to dinners and took care of the groceries etc. Basically made sure it’s an equitable relationship. She got a new job this year and is now making 210k (more than me) but still expects me to pay for all the dinners and groceries. I’ve already talked to her about this but just resulted in argument. Is there any coming back from this situation to make this equitable relationship or is break up the only option here?
