Got past 2 tough interview rounds at circle only to hear back quickly they are passing and canceling my last 2 interviews. My last interviews ended in a very positive note and with the person ranking me their number 1. It was also my dream job. So you can imagine my current feeling of devastation. I am honestly not in a good place and not sure where to go from here.

Once you process the grief of “almost had the perfect job”…. I highly recommend not getting attached or emotionally invested until you signed the job offer and started working.

I kept emotionally regulated by thinking about my job hunt as a game. I had to find unusual job openings and stretch job openings (had 75% of job requirements). I had personal KPIs that I would celebrate.

And just keep moving… and practicing interviewing.

It’s honestly so hard. I’ve been going through this process too. I try to remind myself that there are a lot of factors that go into the hiring decision, and it’s likely not because of you as a candidate, and if it is, then it’s not the dream job or right place for you. The only thing you can do is keep applying and interviewing, and remember to take time for yourself / enjoy life in the meantime.

Stay calm and poised. As the saying goes, this too shall pass. There are plenty more opportunities out there. Chances are if you were atop this list you will be elsewhere. You never know what caused the change - could have been an internal hire

Also if you haven’t worked there you have no idea if it’s a dream job. I’ve gotten jobs at companies where people told me ahead of time how much they LOVED the company and how I would love it there (they were sincere I knew them socially outside of work context). It was awful and I left after a year.

Lots of companies are entering a “freeze” period. From your description it sounds like this is the case. Try to remember 1) it’s temporary and 2) it likely has nothing to do with you. In fact if you are still around when they reopen the role, you might even be able to negotiate for more $$ if you have managed to secure a few competing offers.

I’m currently prepping for Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company interviews scheduled in the next 2 months. For those that interviewed with both, how would you suggest I tailor my preparation for each one? I understand McKinsey is interviewer led while Bain is the opposite. But other than that, is there anything else I should work on separately for each one?

Is it only me or someone else has also faced a problem while being interviewed by female interviewer.I have faced similar kind of problems in multiple interviews like not even giving a chance to think about code solution and immediately shooting next question, interrupting in the middle while giving an explanation, trying to cover list of questions within short time, some even laughed while I was answering. It kind of feels low and demotivated after going through such evaluation.

Had an interview where I got a bunch of mixed signals from the VP (this was my 2nd interview) but overall ended off well. However, I haven’t heard anything since. I sent a follow up to the HR manager last Friday and crickets. Should I just write it off as a loss or still hold onto (very minimal) hope.
