Got put on a 30 day coaching plan at American Express / Amex . Is this the same as PIP? Will I get fired in 30 days if things don’t improve? I have ADHD & have been struggling to perform at the potential I know I can. My manager puts me down a lot and makes me feel dumb. I’m feeling very disheartened and low about myself. Should I start looking elsewhere ? What should I do? Has anyone gotten a coaching plan at American Express before ? PLS HELP

You won’t necessarily get fired, but I suggest you start looking for a job either inside out outside of AMEX. I promise you there is a job out there that you’ll thrive in. Sounds like your boss is an ass, get away from him and work for someone with whom you’ll have mutual respect.

If ADHD holds you back, it’s your responsibility to overcome that with medication and other modifications.

Unfortunately, and speaking as someone who has it, untreated or under-treated ADHD just isn’t a legitimate reason for workplace underperformance. It’s not a transient condition like an episode of major depression and its symptoms are literally the antithesis of what is required of you in most corporate workplaces.

Of course, it is inappropriate of your manager to put you down - that is workplace bullying and itself is a reason to look elsewhere. But most other corporate jobs are going to have similar demands, so you either need to find an unusual role that caters to your limitations or find a sustainable approach to self-management such that you can meet those demands.

I do not understand all the tough love comments in this thread. It is SO HARD to manage ADHD & very difficult to show up consistently in regards to work performance. I’m sorry you are going through a hard time at work. My advice is that if you think you are at risk of being let go, to put some feelers out, tap into your network, & see what else is out there. Also in your current role, be proactive & communicative.

Tbh, I think I have been given way more chances at work simply from being likable. To me, when that social factor is lost (like a boss you don’t get along with), & no one is going to bat for you, the threat is bigger. Gah it just is such a struggle, I mostly just came here to say I feel your pain, it’s hard af out here, and these other comments lack compassion.

Have you expressed your concerns to your leader about how they make you feel? If you have and this is still their attitude, I would say have a discussion with their leader.

ADHD isn’t a disability or an excuse for poor performance. I have severe ADHD diagnosed at 4 and I’m a top performer. Just take some caffeine

Poor performance can stem from issues with how work activities are structured and communicated, and even small changes can make a huge difference in whether someone performs well or poorly. That doesn’t mean that every case of poor performance can be fixed, but it’s important to assess the root causes of the poor performance.

Finally went to therapy and got diagnosed but considered about jumping on medication so focused on doing CBT to see if I can manage. Any success stories using CBT before turning to medication?

How do you wake up and do the same thing over and over again every single day? I feel flawed that I can’t. I’m wondering if I should start taking my meds everyday rather than just the weekdays for work. Because the meds help me stay on track with chores and life but something about taking stimulants everyday…I feel so guilty…

By EOD I have massive dark circles under my eyes and my face is face super flush from taking adderall.

I started taking Adderal, 2.5 g which is not really a lot. It didn’t really help with my focus, instead I felt restless and somehow nervous and really thirsty. And it made me clench my teeth. I do grind my teeth during nighttime but never experienced this in the daytime. Does it take time to get used to it?

Has anyone found an optimal balance / tips & tricks consuming caffeine with Vyvanse 20/30mg?

I find coffee hard to give up but combining with Vyvanse almost over stimulates me even with small 20mg dosage.

I've always had trouble with things like attention, focusing, and feeling constantly overwhelmed. I started to feel hopeless, feeling burnt out (even worse than my old job). I spend hours diverted when I know I should get work done. I decided to get an evaluation after learning a lot more about ADHD. I was diagnosed as Primarily Inattentive and they are starting me on meds immediately. Will things get better from here? Will, I finally become a productive human being? Should I tell my manager?

Anyone really struggle with lectures? I find it challenging to do online trainings when I have to listen to an hour of a recording of someone talking over a PPT.

I always end up 2x speed, which helps, but even then I manage to get distracted. I find it way more efficient to read materials on my own.

If anyone has strategies to make things like this more bearable I’m all ears! 🙏🏼

anyone been on adderall for a while and it just stopped working? i’m getting distracted more easily than before and losing motivation, even for things i want to do. while this may be partially due to anxiety/depression, i’m wondering if anyone has switched meds/doses after being on adderall for a long time and found it to be a big help.

Venting … So, this is apropos timing. I was hired by a firm (not the one listed on my prof) two months ago and on at least three occasions notified them about my adhd and the anticipated need for an accommodation based on historical experience and my documented diagnosis. Three weeks ago they fired me for not meeting expectations. I only put in four weeks of actual project work, in the last month of a 9 month long engagement. UGH! I just want to work..

Long one - one of my best friends (10+ years) and I had a drink last week, I told her of my recent ADHD diagnosis and how we had noticed the generational trend (my mum & grandad as very similar symptoms wise and they acknowledge this, but not diagnosed). The friend mentioned her therapist has suggested she may had ADHD (inattentive type) - she then told me a few things like how she's absolutely neurotypical and she's never associated herself with neurodiversity etc, she made a ... Has anyone used Thesis to help manage their ADHD? I’ve been worried about using stimulants and it seems like a great alternative, but doubt it would be covered by insurance…
