Those are totally normal emotions. You are happy for her but sad for yourself. Don't beat yourself up over your mixed feelings.
Tell the employer something about her that won’t get her hired !

Yeah. Passed over for a promotion in the military and had a real rough time attending the promotion ceremony and party for a colleague who was selected. I was very jealous even though it was my fault I was a non-select, I didn’t even know the colleague at the time of selection, and it wasn’t even a job I was competing for. But he unjustifiably caught my wrath and frustration.

OP Yes I have had this situation before. In college I tried getting my first job and I would tell my new friend that I applied to this job and that job. Shortly after I would get rejected. One night my friend said she was going to work and I said something like “Oh I thought your admin assistant job was Tuesday morning not Wednesday night” and she said she got the job that I applied to. My mouth dropped. Sometimes it’s good to not tell your friend you are applying to a job. I don’t know what your situation is but sometimes it’s good to not share job opportunities with friends or your competition. (My “friend” couldn’t even tell me she got the job. 😒)
I never told her that I applied to that job but I did tell her that I learned illustrator for the other job (which I also got rejected because they wanted someone with more experience :D). She cannot draw for life, so when I asked her how she did the design project she said she also learned illustrator. I mean I'm glad I helped her but also like if only my leg wasn't injured and I wasn't stressed from all the hospital runs I would have done a much better job. I guess there is also no point in regretting now T.T
I got rejected for a product manager job at Crowdstrike, but I'm oh-so-grateful now. Be careful what you wish for! I believe the right job will find me...
see I have a time limit, I'm on OPT, so I can only be unemployed for a limited amount of days before I get deported :'D
This is the problem with liking your coworkers.
That is disappointing for sure. I had this happen with two friends and they had a falling out over it even though they didn’t know they both applied.
Hopefully your friend will Keep an eye out for future roles for you at the company and be a good reference.
She is a really good person and a friend that's why I feel guilty for even feeling this way you know. I'm an international student so I need a job if not I'll get deported after 90 days T.T so I guess that's also why I'm stressed out
Still your friend. Be happy. Get over it
wow great advice. Totally got over it now, thank you!!
