Got staffed 3rd day of joining, bench is deep. Not sure if they just need someone or if it's really a good opportunity. What are questions to ask? Was told it's great to launch career here.

Well, first thing to do would be getting your free Fitbit. First projects don't matter as long as they're not forever, for local/afs. Just make sure the next one is what you want

like

Run and hide from pmo

like

PMO is great to start with, but the sooner you can get into a functional role the better

like

First client you'll need to suck it up and knock it out of the park. If you already know what space you want to get into start networking now. Those people who you delivered for will vouch for you. Who knows though, some get lucky and get on an awesome project from the getgo

like

Since you are new you don't have much of a choice if they want to staff you. You have nothing to fall back on, so you turning it down will come off as "No, that project is not good enough for m," and instead will be costing ACN money on the bench. I say take the project and make the best of it. As Deloitte said, after you get experience on this project you may need to push to roll off after a reasonable time / effort on your part

like

Any opinions if it could help with performance review part? I checked and we don't have anything else open / deep bench.

like

PMO is great to get leadership visibility depending on how the project is set up. I pretty much live in our exec conference room with the leadership team and it's pretty insightful to watch some of what we do, even if my day to day is horse shit.

like

There's some clients that are black holes. Cisco, JPMC, Goldman, etc. you're basically staff Aug. Run as far as you can if you're local unless you think you want to exit to that client within 3 years

like

Staff Aug = client didn't want to hire their own employees so you're essentially worked as a client employee and have two bosses (acn and client). It's actually more insightful since you don't have a client counterpart who could've been a major boner

like

PMO is a slow death.

like

Get a roll off date in writing via email. That way you have a little more leverage if they try to extend you and you want to roll off.

like

Personally I would recommend avoiding overthinking promotions at the stage in your career. Try and get into the space that you see yourself longer term with the company and then try and move up. I'm a tech person and could never do PMO.

like

PMO is not a bad place to start. You get insight on how the business operates, you get exposure to leadership, and it is a long-term role, so if you do a good job and develop a great relationship with your boss, your supervisor will hopefully have your back for promotions, etc. A long term role with a good client is better than the bench.

like

Any details? Is this pmo? Local? Travel? Quality client? Tech? Strategy? Duration? Responsibilities?

like

Thank you everyone for all of the advice. Just feel nervous I suppose. I'm coming in as a 10 so new but not new enough 🙄🙏🏻

like

In the meantime, someone on the overall account will eventually roll off/quit or their team will expand. Just make sure you have transition plans. But worrying about a promo as an experienced hire probably shouldn't be a concern - think of all those benchers who can't stay staffed long term

like

What does "basically staff aug" mean? And how do I run away if they said they would tag me?

like

Take the roll. It looks bad to deny your first potential project when you have nothing else lined up. Just be sure to stress that you are looking for a broad range of experiences in your first few years and therefore would like an upfront roll off date.

like

Role*. Roll-off and Role talk got me all confused.

like

Yeah role sounds terrible but you don't have a choice so take it

Need advice for resigning while on bench. I already have a start date with the new employer. Should I do a traditional two week notice or give <=1 week notice instead? My goal is to not burn bridges, but I also don’t want to get let go on the spot since I have nothing to “wrap up” besides HR tasks. I’ve read on here that sometimes they will let you go day of and pay you out for two weeks but I don’t see why any firm would do that for somebody not currently performing billable work...
