I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?
This is cursed.

Along with how well you interview and many other factors. Companies are always going to pay you the least amount they can to obtain you or keep you based on what other options they believe are available to you.
Also learned that they had me start lower than a regular associate..a new second year is earning the same as I was earning as a third year at the same tier... could it be just because I am a minority? Demotivated..
Sometimes the education background matters. For tax, people with a LLM or JD get higher salary than those with a MS Tax degree, even they are on the same team.
How much were you offered as a new senior
@MA1 the reason I did not do that is, I don't wanna get fired for asking too many questions..
Do you see the financials of your office? There may not be a large bonus pool to give much. Also every new hire starts higher than previous class. First 2-3 years usually are all very close to each other 3-5k
why don't you confront them about the disparity see if you can get an adjustment?
It's a Keynesian eceomy with imperfect information.
Unless you're one rated you're going to get hosed. Up or out
@Pwc2 do u mean all managers and SM were at least tier 1
Depends on the LOS. Different bonus method than when you were an associate. Were your rated higher as a senior?
PwC OP: I can't speak for everyone, but my director was 1 or 2 rated every year of her career. For the perma-SMS/Directors, maybe they could have been a mix of 2s and 3s, but the structure of the firm is designed to keep those higher performers moving up the chain.
