Gov. Newsom just mandated Covid vaccines for all K—12 students. What do u think?

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya (Professor of Medicine at Stanford University) was on a news program the other day and he stated that mandates for children and teachers breeds further distrust in vaccines when there was very little distrust before. The risk of harm from COVID in children (age 5 to 12) is so low that the risk of the vaccine itself may be greater. Dr Bhattacharya stated that COVID vaccines are not a sterilizing vaccine, unlike the MMR vaccines which are sterilizing. Sterilizing immunity means that the immune system is able to stop a pathogen, including viruses, from replicating within your body. COVID vaccines do not stop the virus from replicating in your body or spreading to other people. Since we have not achieved sterilizing immunity with the mRNA COVID vaccines, some doctors including Dr Bhattacharya stated there is no legitimate reason to mandate these vaccines. He says adults should consult their own doctor before taking any vaccines. He also stated it should not be a one size fits all approach. But the one size fits all is what the government likes to do. I am trying to encourage people to not to be so easily brainwashed by all the one sided commercials. The media and the government have financial and political motives for forcing everyone to vaccinate. Natural immunity does not help them financially so they are not going to tell you that you don't need it if you've recovered from COVID and built up antibodies already.

A couple of points. First the vaccines are not approved by the CDC only granted use under emergency authorization. So we should mandate that people take a vaccine that the agency whose job it is to regulate things like this has not approved it but only said use it because of the current situation. Next, many people need to look and see what the COVID vaccine actually does. It does not prevent people from getting COVID or prevent people from spreading it. What it does is lessens the impact of COVID if you were to become infected with it. Think about that. We now have created A symptomatic people with the COVID virus. How dangerous is that. You should also look at the effectiveness of a vaccine on different variants of the virus. The vaccine that people are taking was created for the Alpha variant, that is no longer the predominant variant impacting us. In reality the current vaccine is doing very little to stop the spread of the Delta variant and others. My final thought for you is this. If the vaccine is so vital to us, why do some of our elected officials have the option to opt out of taking the vaccine. Should they not be the first in line taking it and leading by example, or is it only good for the masses and not the elected elite.

I'm amazed and saddened at all of the misinformation from quack doctors and conspiracy theorists that's being embraced by fellow educators on this site. Please follow the REAL science and listen to the majority of health care providers who are pleading with everyone to get vaccinated. This is real folks. And just like society embraced other important vaccines in the past, we need to do the same now. AND get vaccinated!

I don’t understand how a governor can mandate a vaccine. It seems like that would be a legislative item. One person making a decision for that many people is disturbing to me.

CMS3…oh wow, a bloody nose from testing! Are you prone to nosebleeds? I find the test to be painless & much more tolerable, most places where I live are drive-thru and you swab yourself. Even the testing site at my school, staff swab themselves. The swab doesn’t have to go as far in the naval passage as they were doing in the beginning of the pandemic.

I think it is a tremendous reach of power. Health care is personal choices. If a woman can claim "my body, my choice" so can I. I'm highly against these vaccines because they are NOT tested with the same strict protocols that past vaccines have gone through. They are simply a power play. I say this because the data we do have, shows a LOW death rate in comparison to many other death rates. When they can show that the vaccines are NOT made in any way from fetal tissue (I refuse to be blood guilty of the murdered babies) and they come clean about the possible reactions and the death rate from it; then I will reconsider. Life is too precious and they are playing with everyone's right now. It's disgusting and NONE of governments business. I'm NOT sorry for stepping on anyone's toes who thinks it is OK to tell others what they need to do for their own healthcare. I want real data. Not what they pick and choose for us to know. I have too many healthcare friends who are telling me about all the data they are forced to hide.

Mandates are working, more people are getting vax and that means less are getting seriously ill. People had their chance to make their own choice.

Can you explain how your son getting COVID twice reinforces your belief in natural immunity?

I support the mandate. Mandatory vaccinations are not new. The government has been mandating things for years, such as seat belts, speed limits, driver’s license registration, no smoking indoors at public establishments, mandatory education for K-12 students, just to name a few. I’m not going to apologize for my point of view anymore. Requiring people to be vaccinated is a FAR cry from oppression & a denial of rights. Unless there is an underlying medical reason that someone cannot get the vaccine then people need to accept this mandate. Just my opinion. Please don’t come at me with your pitchforks.

likefunnysmarthelpful

NM has a point. When I got my vaccine, I was told that if you had had COVID in the previous 3 months, you had to wait. Not sure if that is still the case. I believe it was because of the antibodies. I vaguely remember something coming out around Christmas last year that the antibodies stayed in your system 3-6 months.

Id be a homeschool teacher and pull my kids! No vaccine for my kids!

I feel strongly about getting the Covid shots & booster but people still must make their own choice.

likesmart

Actually, no choice is an involuntary patient on the psych unit. They can refuse medication, but if medication is needed (and, it always is) the staff will do whatever they needed to do short of harm to get that medication in their system. That’s force. No choice in that situation.

I think everyone should get vaccinated, not sure how I feel about a Governor forcing all students to get it though. I'm going to have to think on this. I just wish people would wake up and see the only way we beat this is getting the population vaccinated. It's a shame we might have to force people to get vaccinated. It should be common sense.

likesmartfunny

I thought about it. I'm all for vaccines but I don't feel they should be required at this time. I'm vaccinated. Getting my booster next week. If you don't want to get vaccinated, whatever. Your choice. But don't complain when a business or concert requires proof of vaccination and won't let you in. That is also their right. They are a private business, so they can set their rules. Masks, vaccinations, whatever. The key word is private. A private school can require a vaccination, but I have reservations about a public school and the government doing this. That is just my thoughts. Not open for debate. I respect your opinion, respect mine

Aye, Comrade!

It is terrifying to see how many in public education applaud the government overstepping their bounds and taking our individual freedoms and choices.

Having choices taken away and having consequences added to make certain choices are not the same thing. People in California have the same choices available to them. One of those choices might make their lives a little bit harder. If it truly aligns with their principles, they should be willing to undertake the inconvenience. If not, then they have a choice to make about the situation.

Newp, newp newp newp. People who are elected officials are NOT going to tell me or my family what is going in our body. Not even sorry about my opinion anymore. I respect yours, you should do the same, but "mandating" something that has changed the entire world in the last 18 mos is not happening in my household. We are Christians and believe our days are numbered. We see holistic doctors and our chiropractor regularly and even WITH "underlying health issues" (insert eye roll as that's never really been a popular phrase before now), we have remained Covid-FREE all while living our lives. Going to church, seeing family, working on our farm, being outside, enjoying LIFE. I refuse to be scared.

Healthy people can get a virus and pass it to others. Natural immunity? What’s that?

With social security potentially running out, why couldn’t it be an option for the govt to put $5k for every baby that is born in a year into an account Invested in a govt share class S&P 500 fund. Historical average is 10%+, which would provide roughly $2.7 million for a baby born today. Eventually, this would eliminate the need for soc sec tax, and would only cost $18 Billion a year instead of several trillion a year being deposited into the trust.
