I was in a similar situation; making ~$90k in banking when I got the BCG offer. Another portion of the bank wanted me, and said no problem when I asked for $140k...Until they heard I was only making $90k. Offer in hand didn't matter, many large companies have rules against the size of raise an internal person can get. To get a raise bigger than 15-20% almost certainly requires a move.

like

Hahahahaha. No, you will not get a market adjustment to 145. Especially not as a SC 😂

like

145 is like an M2 at PwC (no MBA if that matters). I don't see you getting there as an SC at BAH. Probably time to move.

like

BAH sucks, your not going to get what you want from them. They are cheap, jump ship 🚢

like

@IBM1 I've given a number of raises between 45-65% by making a market valuation financial case. Just need to have the balls to ask and a strong financial justification. @OP An MBA alone (regardless of institution), is not one of them, however. That is a means to exit and use as leverage on your next employer

like

... and another company placing my value at 145.

like

Take the other offer and don't look back

like

Thanks BCG, that is along the lines of what I was thinking

like

Probably won't work with your same company OP, I did something similar and received a similar bump, from Uncle D. Working full time and school full time blows.

like

Also need to consider if the MBA is from the firms target school. Almost all consulting firms only value MBAs from certain schools...if it's not a big name program don't expect much

like

IBM gives internal raises of 60% sometimes

like

You can certainly get an adjustment but they won't match your 145k offer.

like

I would take the offer. Get a few years of experience and if you enjoy it great. If not, you can leverage your connections and come back with a salary boost. What school did you go to for your MBA OP?

like

You expect more than a 55k jump? A 50%+ raise just for getting an MBA?

more like 20k raise dude

Lol no ^

Anything above a certain percentage requires partner approval. Given that, it comes down to your manager's desire to push something up that high. You def need a promotion in addition given salary ranges. Easier going outside and coming back, but you still need to prove your skills wth MBA.

OP, you should definitely jump ship. With your experience and MBA, you should be able to get some offers making way more than you currently are making. Go for it and best of luck!

You can easily make the case for promo to associate and you could probably get a bump in addition to that, so that's a 15% increase. $145k is probably above average pay for a lead associate. Keep in mind most principals are making $220k-$300k. So basically, unless you can get promoted to lead associate, you won't get $145k. If you get an offer for $145k elsewhere, f*ing take it.

Principals make more than $300k ...

I received a job offer today for an entry level position. I lack experience in this field and didn't tick off all the boxes in the job description. I completed 2 conversational interviews + 1 additional interview with a skills test. They were very impressed with my skills test and all the interviewers seemed to like me a lot. I think the offer they gave was fair with market price & it pays more than my current job + benefits. I've always been told to negotiate but should I in this case?
