A recruiter today in an interview for another job asked me how much I currently make at my current position.
I was caught off guard and debating on saying “I don’t feel comfortable answering this question” or by lying to him about my salary. This position I applied for was 35% more than what I currently make.

I regretfully gave him a number (not my real salary)

I know for a fact legally you don’t have to answer these questions… right?

Copywriter with serious imposter syndrome at new job! How do senior writers up their game? Was in-house 1.5 years and underpaid in NYC. With only previous freelance experience (and nonprofit and grant writing before that) figured I had to slog through it for years. Cut to now, 6 months into a new copywriting role at huge tech company. My salary almost quintupled overnight. I think I’m doing great, but that depends on the day and who I work with (no other writers by the way).
