Panic attacks are something largely out of a person's control. Usually, it involves your body misinterpreting a mild stressor (like an interview) and reacting with an escalated response. Dry mouth, a choking-inability to swallow-kind of feeling, sweaty hands and palms, difficult/irregular breathing, are all symptomatic. It doesn't mean the person can't handle stress. Just means that their body is misinterpreting signals. This person with a panic attack during an interview is probably quite capable of walking to the front of the room and making a pitch, nbd, on a regular day.

Thanks everyone - it's never happened to me before. My mom and brother get them and have for a long time so I know they are not in control of them. I've had a lot of interviews and I'm a freaking SM for Christ sake so it really caught me by surprise - I literally was choking and couldn't talk. I blamed "coming down with a cold, apologies, let me grab a glass of water" so that gave me a min to get my shit together and breathe deeply a few times. I literally looked at the wind blowing the trees to calm my mind as I spoke. It was like I was chewing my words. Eventually it subsided. I don't know but t sucked bad and I was just glad it didn't happen in person, although I think it was because it was on the phone and he guy was kind of an ass which threw me off more than usual for some reason.

You made it through! Having challenges doesn't define you but how you respond to them definitely shows your character! If it bothers you, consider talking to a counselor. Setting yourself up for success by dealing with things on your terms is a good strategy.

If one needs to get medication to handle a certain situation, he/ she should just get out of that situation as it isn't healthy. Medication isn't the answer to everything!

@M1 is an uneducated a$$hole. I've had panic attacks on a regular basis since I was a kid. Anxiety disorders are largely genetic. After 20 years I am finally considering going on an SSRI but would have way earlier if there wasn't such a stigma from people like you. You suck.
