Greetings all.

I currently work in consulting, planning on transitioning to Big Law. I’m speaking with a recruiter who has been quite proactive. No interviews at the moment. I plan on sending cold networking emails to partners/associates (mostly POCs) with whom I share some starter connections, meet for coffee and see where things go.

Any tips you can share with me on how best to manage this? There invariably will be a lot of rejections but I believe all I need do is get it right once.

I’ve done this several times before (cold emailing for place I’m applying to). I’d say try to see if you and that person you’re reaching out to have any common connections. If you do, reach out to that connection and ask for their help in making the connection with the person at the firm you’re applying to.
Sounds like you know what you’re doing though

Interesting. I hadn’t thought of this thank you!!

Getting a referral is always helpful. What area of law are you looking at?

Oh I see. Makes sense. I’ll pursue this option as well. Thank you!

Wondering if anyone can share the approximate timeline after applying to Target Corp. to hearing something from them. Applied 9/1 and on the applicant portal the status still says “in progress.” I got a great internal referral, but I’ve not reached out to the hiring manager. 😬 I know there were a few hundred applicants — what’s a realistic timeline and what could I say to the hiring manager if I reach out to them. Many thanks.

3rd year lawyer (Class of 2019) with only in-house experience. I have an interview tomorrow with the AGC for another in-house position that requires 1-3 years experience. Screener gave a general outline of the Q's. Most of them center around how much original drafting I do of contracts (i.e. not copy and pasting from old contract/reusing similar language). What percentage do you think the AG is looking for? 70% reusing language vs 30% original language is the estimate at my current role.

I was offered $42k plus bonuses at the interview, but when called back I was offered $44.5k plus bonuses. I already accepted. Did I leave money on the table here?

Just here to vent that I feel severely disadvantaged for being a POC with partnership aspirations my firm. I've seen much younger white associates in my practice group get to go on client pitches, and as an nearly 7th year associate, I haven't been invited to go on a single one (even after voicing concerns about this to the partners in my group).
