It's obvious to me that nearly everyone in this thread is under 40. If anyone were older they would understand it's not about being PC or triggers. They would remember how hard women had to fight to stop being the person to "get us some coffee, sweetheart?" at the beginning of meetings. How we had to demand not to be slapped on the ass, or assigned things like the office party instead of challenging, meaningful work. It breaks my heart to see women today who intentionally demean other women or themselves because they think it will play better with the men they are trying to impress. Like "not being sensitive/PC" is somehow a virtue, and not undermining the battle we are all still fighting. And now I hear the newest generation talking about "this girl at work" and they don't even hear themselves.
Thank you for this post. Ladies, we are women, not girls. This gentleman was noble to stand up for us here, but we cannot rely on men to stand up for us - we have to stand up for each other.

Girl here. Male colleagues ages 18 and over are MEN not GUYS. Please use the correct nomenclature when referring to them in professional settings.

I generally prefer to use the term "ladies" 😍

Both approaches problematic. Have you asked zheir preferred pronouns? Smh

I can say whatever the hell I want and don't need some idiot man telling me how to refer to women or girls or females or xx. Mind your own life and stop focusing on trivial shit.

Not every female over 18 is a woman, nor is every male over 18 a man.

Are you assuming someone's gender?

D1: learn English. The male equivalent of them term "girl" is "boy". You don't call males at work "boys".

Ugh, this reminds me of a super insecure partner are used to work for her used to call people on his engagement "kids" and tell people they're "big boys/girls". 😳🤢😡

OP, does your post make you feel uber progressive and trendy? Christ people, stop being so damn sensitive. I'll call people whatever title appropriately fits their character.

They're only ladies if they act like it. Otherwise women is appropriate.

.....but Gender is a spectrum? 🔥

I use male and female because of weirdos like you

like

@SM1 this is why I stopped saying "this girl at work". My coworkers are grown and I would absolutely lose it if someone referred to me as a "boy" at work.

It's not even about being PC, it's just common sense

Hey everyone, i need some advice. So I was recently offered a job at another consulting firm, but the person they want me reporting to has almost the same if not less experience than I do. Furthermore, this person specializes in work that I am not interested in (PM/QA). I'm more of a technical consultant. They want me to meet this person soon. Would it be risky or disrespectful to ask for a different manager? What is the best way to approach this situation? TIA

Hi everyone! I just got a notification from USCIS that my previously approved H-1B amendment (extension) was revoked. It was originally approved in April 2020. After that, I filed a COE petition which was approved in June 2020 and then, I switched companies in July 2020. My COE still says approved but now I’m confused about my current status, given the revocation of my original H-1B anendment. Has anyone experienced this?
