I thought my job was secure when this WFH started. I’m getting more apprehensive each day. Many people were forced to take PTO (not me for the time being) and billable work is dwindling by the minute
As a new hire, what’s the better approach? Go around looking (begging) for billable hours or sit tight at my desk for 8 hours a day and study for the CPA exam?
I’m getting out of PA finally! No more billable hours. So excited that I can have my life back!
Anyone have advice or thoughts in quitting without having something lined up? Hit 60 billable hours for this week already and it’s only Thursday morning. Considering just quitting and then being able to devote time and energy to interviewing.
Is there a policy for charging billable hours on the weekend? Feel like I should be able to bill 1.5x+ for having to work on the weekend
I just started as a first year associate at a firm that does not have any organized pro bono, however there is an “uncapped” billable hours policy that would allow me to apply pro bono to my hours requirement. How would you suggest I go about getting into pro bono work? It’s my understanding it’s not done much at my firm.
Black box comp at mid law. Base Pay is currently 25 percent less than top market and bonus program is meh. Billable hours req is 1800 though. Given how hot the job market is, what is the best way to ask for more pay in the year end discussion without pissing the firm (that I like) off.

Is anyone willing to share billable requirements and salaries for mid-sized, Chicago market?
I feel like billable hours discourage attorney efficiency and incentivizes folks to drag work out or take longer to complete assignments (excluding tangible due dates). Have firms seriously considered other ways to measure productivity outside of the billable hour?
I struggle like crazy staying on track for billable hours. I will work 10.5 hours and look back at my day and 6 of it was billable. Tips for doing better about this?? I have minimums to meet and this is not sustainable
People who work 50, 60, 70+ hours a week: how do you do that without putting your project over budget? Are your engagements written to have a resource work over 40+hours a week? Are you spending over 10-30 hours a week on added non billable time? What are y’all doing with all of that time?!
What's your A/R per month or per quarter? Please list area of law and years of practice. So many posts about billable hours but at the end of the day, isn't it all about the dollar dollar bills y'all?
Do lower COLarea big law/non-big laws have lower billable hours requirements? I mean "real” expectations, not just what they put in their advertisement. Will l still be expected to reply to emails after9:00pm? And always quickly respond after 8:00 am, at least? Corporate transactions. I like to practice law, need more sleep, though.
What are expected utilisation rates for entry level consultants? Been here 9 months and only done billable work for about 3 months of that. Bored out of my mind for the majority of my time here.
