No regrets coming through the FACD program with EJ if you can get into it and are willing to do the hard stuff
If you have prior industry experience, aka relationship banker, then you should reach out to Edward Jones. Talk to some of the branches near you. I love it here personally and came from the corporate world.
Where are you located?
The FACD program with Edward Jones was great! I loved it and I thought it really did a good job preparing you for how to run a business. I would try to arrange an agreement with an existing advisor first to try to take over some assets or at least get an office to work out of. After you complete it, you are going to be on your own out of the back of your car unless you can line something up
Guys don’t work out of their truck anymore. EDJ is now the largest firm in the world in terms of advisors. You will at minimum have an office to work out of.
If you can get into the FACD program at Edward Jones, for sure go for it. They have a great program and are a great company. I’m Indy with 134 mm (17 years) and have always been impressed with how well trained they are. Other firms like Schwab seem to be similar.
@Axa Advisors 1 : I’m in New York, working in Yonkers
If you can network in with a high net worth independent financial advisor willing to mentor and train you, and probably give you assets down the road, this may be a gentler path than FACD. I’ve known young advisors that have taken both roads, and both are great training grounds.
I shared an office with a veteran advisor for 6 months. It was very helpful.
If you don’t have a lot of experience with financal products, NY Life and Northwest Mutual have amazing training programs to help you focus on the basic protection needs at first, then evolving to full services eventually.
If you are in Yonkers, I might suggest you reach out to New York Life. 38 years here and it is a great place to build your own practice
