Guys I’m mortified. I clicked mute on a 100+ people meeting but I guess I didn’t mute myself. The whole call heard my mom say, “He seems nice, who’s that?”

Really enjoyed all the stories in this thread! 😊 I can never forget this one:
One of my coworkers forgot she had camera on and was undressing/dressing - bared all in front of the entire company. We were so shocked we didn’t say anything for what seemed like a minute. Our tech director then “booted” her out of the meeting.

Not so much a mute moment, but I work for a very large hospital system in IT. One of our vendors couldn’t answer what should have been a clear cut question and kept waffling on the answer (it was clear they were trying to sell vapor ware). With chum in the water, we kept pushing them on it a little (not too bad though).

Then someone from the vendor company was sharing his screen and forgot, and everyone saw his teams chat where he and the sales exec and others were talking shit about us 😂. I have to say, I chuckled a bit.

Girlfriend was on a call, her CIO and boss kept arguing about something stupid... revenue allocation by geographic region or something.

I say “I don’t know why you’re belaboring this shit. Make a decision and move on”

She says “I’m sooo hungry. We were supposed to end an hour ago”

Not on mute lol

likefunnysmart

Seriously. If this was a video you'd end it too early wouldn't you, you savage.

Was in weekend online training session with my whole office and logged in a few minutes early. People were slowly joining so it was still quite. My camera was off for the moment.
Hubby had Alt-travelled for the weekend and was half asleep in the hotel bed. He woke up barely with eyes half open to watch me quickly change my clothes, as he always does. I loudly commented "you just looove these boobies don't you!" straight into the mic while not on mute. The whole class heard it. Mortified. 🙀

funnylikehelpful

That beats the training call I was in when, during a “work in this project” session, the silence was broken by someone saying “I’m on this XYZ training. It’s a f-ing waste of time”

My husband walked by in his boxer briefs. And literally everybody noticed so comparatively, you’re doing great 😭

likefunnyuplifting

Haha that’s fair SM5. But glass half full. Made me crack up and out loud too. During some times when I am awfully grumpy and resentful.

One time I forgot to turn off my video and took a massive bong rip during a meeting 💀
Nobody said anything, I like to imagine nobody saw it

P sure my bf does this every week on his task recap call lmao

That's it?? Was expecting something way better..

Thank God it wasn’t what I’m usually saying when I’m going on a call.

Mortified about a G-rated situation? You must be relatively fresh out of school. Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of far more embarrassing opportunities to look forward to as your career progresses.

Yes and that’s when you hire a PR firm. Lol

I went on mute on a call with 20+ ppl once -
Girlfriend from bathroom: Ugh my stomach is killing me. Dying in here
Me: Was it the pancakes?
GF: I don't think so. Weren't they gluten free?
Me: Yeah but still. What else could it be?
GF: I think the syrup?
Me: The syrup? There's no way, come on. It was the pancakes.
Colleague: Um.. can someone please go on mute?

Luckily I was relatively new so maybe not everyone recognized me. Have never messed up the mute button since then.

One time I said “this meeting is pointless” I was unmuted 🙈 and there were about 50 people on the call

You and 48 other people were thinking the EXACT same thing!

Whilst on a video call with about 20 people my husband came up behind me and started to kiss my neck & went to grope me. I pulled away quickly & explained I was on a call (I had a document open that had just been linked in the chat so it covered the video call screen). Went bright red as I got pings about how sweet it was 😳

funnylike

Lol sweet that he kissed my neck 😊

likeupliftingfunny

I as well thought I was on mute during a call when my cat jumped up on my desk. I began kissing his forehead and whispering to him how handsome he is and how much I love him. My friend on the call messaged me and was like we can hear you!! 😳 The presenter was a pretty good looking guy so that was a bit awkward 😂

Had a client group head who had been awake for 30 hrs because of travel fall asleep during a steerco once. He was snoring so loudly and we couldn’t mute him on our end since he was the host so everyone had to leave and join a new dial in

Lmao yeah if that happened to anyone I worked with then sleep 1000% needed to take priority

Presenting a business case to my VP. My 4 yo ran from the shower buck naked and barged into the study screaming - “this is my pee pee, this is my pee pee”.
Yea the business case was approved. Instantly.

I laughed out loud in a meeting reading this.
I’m guessing they all just laughed? That’s a nice ice breaker

There was once a co worker saying on the call "They're just talking about this marketing plan.." to his girlfriend, in a tone like "I can't believe this is happening".

The client? Cruise client.
The moment? Beginning of the pandemic

Epic. Client lead had to kick him out of the room cause he wouldn't go on mute.

I turned video off and thinking I was on mute, exclaimed "motherf*cker, I'm on a video call. Leave me alone!"

Was on a call with C level at previous company and I had to go on mute for a second but instead of asking the ceo if i “can have a sec” somehow what came out of my mouth was “can I have a s.e.x.” ... dead silence - how about feeling stupid and rejected :D

funnylike

Lol I can’t come close to most of these. I was joining a 30 person call for a new client early pandemic where I expected to be listen only... so naturally I was multitasking and working out. When I got to squats, the client’s CFO asks me to stop doing the dishes and go on mute... I promised to never do the dishes on a call again lol.

Stop dropping the plates, bro 🏋️

I bet at least 40% of the people were thinking of things completed unrelated to the call

My partner has a lot of student loans and is on income payment loan plan where her loan gets forgiven after 10 years of public sector work. Because her loan payment is dependent on income, we are afraid that if we file our taxes jointly (we got married last year), her loan payment will go up significantly since I make a lot more than she does. We are thinking of filing married but separately so our tax returns remain separate and she doesn’t get penalized because of my high income. Thoughts?

I hate mentality of people towards taxes.
First, everyone pays taxes.
Second, paying income tax should be considered pride. We are paying because we are earning well enough. And we are paying only as per our slabs, not randomly.

I am looking to change roles and currently work in the public sector. Coming from where I am, I have always taken into account that the salary I have is lower than the same job/duties in the private sector. I believe I am at a disadvantage with negotiating for a private sector job that has way more in their budget to compensate. How do I know if I’m asking for too much? I do not want to be cheated out of what I’m worth! I am looking to go into an HR Coordinator role, 7+ yoe and BSBA.
