Unpopular opinion - don’t let a visa become a barrier to happiness.
Real estate on h1b is an investment that people usually do (since the wait for GC is endless) and you can’t rent for life. also unless the market crashes there is no better time to invest in real estate than yesterday.
I agree with C1. I am in the same situation as OP and had lived my life in fear for the first few years of my life here. Then it kept getting worse, so I said screw it, I’ll do whatever I want to and let life sort itself out. You can’t control what’s not in your control. So I got a dog. I’ll take him wherever I need to go. I quit my job, went for an MBA. I didn’t settle for a job I didn’t like after business school and after 2 jobs got the one I considered my dream job. And got an RFE. Working through it now. :) Don’t let the fear of the unknown stop you.
H1b holder for 12 yrs. Have 2 dogs (7 yrs old each), 1 house (owned for 6 years), 2 kids (3 and 2).. and 1 wife (my second because I divorced the first ones ass who put conditions on happiness based on visa).👍😎 relax and live your life

I regret not buying earlier. Make sure it’s rentable with some back up plans - getting connected with property managers for renting and real estate agents for selling. Will do a power of attorney with limited authority if I need to move out before selling. Btw your current city is important. I might not buy one in Bay Area (at current price) irrespective of visa status.
Please don’t pause your life for GC situation. Because it may take many many years. Does your wife work ? If yes, you are in a better position as the spouse gets to work if one of you gets issues with h1 or stamping.
Got not a lot going on worth working towards I think. If things get still during a week, I kind of sit and think what my future holds. 32M
Career wise things are good, to risk and relocate to India.
Which city do you live in? If you have 2-3 years H1b approved, I think you can invest in a house. Don’t go for something too big or fancy. Just buy a condo / townhouse / house in a good area where you can rent out easily.
Making kids is not in your hands. Dont ever postpone. Lessons learnt. Educate her. You can buy a place anytime
Right EY1. For most folks, its a walk in the park. God forbid if one or both of you fall under the exception, its an extremely uphill battle and it gets worse when you age.
Start right now bud.
If you have a full time job and don’t plan to relocate then go ahead and buy that house. I bought one this year and regret that I didn’t buy it any sooner. If you are planning to wait till GC is approved then you’re looking at buying a retirement home.
How old is your wife? I would say try to avoid postponing (if you want kids, which it seems like)
In same boat OP, going through 3rd extension in a span of 6 months and this is getting to my head . Badly want to get out of this shit but SO wants to stay , its been hard
