Had a 50-page settlement brief due today. My team is just me (first year), a senior associate, and a partner. The senior drafted a skeleton version last week and then went away on vacation for the last week. I worked on it for hours all week long, back and forth with the partner, and it feels so good to have submitted it finally! I’ve never drafted anything this substantive or important so the pressure was on, but it’s great experience! Definitely looking forward to the weekend now 😅

What a strange post. The OP tag is counsel, but identifies as a first year, and the ending was a happy one.

I’m actually an associate, but when I started at my firm I was briefly part time so I was called counsel. Never updated my fishbowl because I like to stand out from all the other associates 🙃

Is it a good idea to tell my lead that I am about to have a mental breakdown? I am going through something personal, and this busy season hasn’t been easy for me. I requested pto, but basically was told that it is not appropriate to use pto in busy season. I am on the edge of quitting , but I think I should at least try to talk to someone before I give my notice. Any advice for this situation?

Got an offer for moving to a boutique and was excited until I got the benefit info. Currently at $140, DTO, 12 holidays, high chance of decent bonus. New role is $160k, 24 days PTO, 8 holidays, only utilization bonus but good size.
The change is PTO/holidays is a huge deal for me but not sure if the salary makes up for it. They aren't budging on anything which to me is not a good sign. Really torn on what to do

Starting to look for a part time nanny now we’re going back to office (3 days a week). Total newbs here and just starting the process. One potential nanny asked for PTO and vacation days (and being paid if we don’t need her one of the agreed upon days). This makes sense, but is this typical? I’m in LA.

I have been offered a position in-house at a $500M-$1B company, mid-sized city LCOL, 10 YOE in private practice. They offered me $120k, w opp for undefined discretionary bonus. No paid parental leave or 401(k) match & only 1 week PTO in first year (but claim they have discretion for more). Is there any way to salvage this? Salary guides suggest TC should be around $200-215k. I want to get my foot in the door but this seems crazy low.

Considering a move to NTT Data in a healthcare consulting role. Mixed reviews in the bowls. Major concerns are bench policy, staff aug roles, 2 week PTO, and high turnover due to job dissatisfaction.
