Had a huge bust yesterday. I feel like everything in my life is falling apart, and am not coping with being full time mum and full time consultant. Have mental health issues and can feel everything unravelling. How can I think about life / today to get me through?

I was in a similar spot a few months ago when I was going through a medication change.

I started from the ground up to pull myself out of the funk. First I focused on eating habits, sleep hygiene, and at least a walk outside a day. Once I had those down, my head was much clearer.

Then I started picking up weekly therapy sessions & made sure I spend at least an hour a week with a support group. For me this is my AA home group but getting together with supportive friends is healing.

Now I feel ready to start tackling bigger changes (potential career change, working through issues with my partner, setting boundaries).

I wish I had a quick answer / solution for you. Whatever you’re feeling is temporary and you have the power to make positive changes in your life

Second year considering leaving NY biglaw for a few public interest options. Partly for mental health reasons. Making market, and I would potentially leave for a starting position offering around / a bit over $80k. Holding out currently to see what else arises. Fortunately I don’t have much debt, and that’s enough to cover my basic rent/living expenses, but not by much. Has anyone made a jump like that before? How did you manage financially if so? Hey all I have an opportunity to buy a vacation home as a private sale from my parents (they are buying a new house in that area and need to sell the old one), it is waterfront property in NH 10 minutes from Mt Sunappee. I am concerned that making this purchase may make me a little cash poor in the short term, but still manageable. Just had the last interview of the second stage which consists of four 45mins interviews with different people. I got the feeling that the last interviewer wasn't focusing on what I was answering to him. No small talk in the beginning and he was slightly laughing where there's nothing to laugh about while I was doing my introduction. Currently I work for a small company that does the construction of small cell utility poles and roof top sites for the major cell carriers like VZW, T-mobile, AT&T and so on. I am a project coordinator but I do everything under the sun. Created project tracker. Friday checkin!! How’s everyone doing? It’s finally pool weather in texas which is a big drinking trigger for me but also a big positive. I love being in the sun. It recharges me. I love to swim, float, listen to audiobooks or rock out to music in the pool. Throw a meat on the grill, peel a salad. I feel healthy and recharged and the Claws compliment the day well. Tricks me into thinking I can drink healthy.

Unbeknownst to my friends or family, I just stopped by Pinkberry on my way to pick up dinner and ate a small chocolate hazelnut with candied pecans under an awning in the rain in the most harried and shameful way. Much like I used to slam two IPAs while waiting for a take out order. 😂

Here we go! Traveling on vacation for the next week and didn’t bring my Adderall (which I’ve been abusing for the past year). Hoping to wean myself off of it during the vacation. Wish me luck

So I wanted to share my experience and see if it helps anyone else out there. I was not an alcoholic, but I was definitely alcohol abusive. I would go out and drink and then be completely blacked out and not remember anything. I would also do and say stupid things that just made no sense and I even got in trouble with the law a few times.

One day, my friend and I after a few day bender decided to take some LSD because we were hung over and just wanted to not drink and chill. (Cont.)

I’ve been sober for over 2 months! Feeling great about it. However, heading to an all inclusive resort tomorrow. I’ll be tempted however know that how I’m feeling now is much better than the temporary enjoyment and subsequent pain and suffering alcohol brings.

I’m sober curious. I’m also about to help a new non-alcoholic spirit company with their launch.
I have a question for people in recovery. If a brand were to contend that sobriety is a spectrum, or allow for that to a least be part of the conversation, how does that make you feel? Are other brands doing a good job of being inclusive of people who are truly sober?

Sharing some thoughts I’ve had lately:

The end of my suffering occurs with the death of my ego. I am reborn when I surrender to life exactly as it is, right at this moment (and it’s always “this moment”). I can begin to grow when I either accept life as it is, or I change my life because I can’t accept it. The better I become at surrender and acceptance, the more I experience serenity. After a long enough time I realize I’ve had a spiritual awakening. Now I am peace / joy / love.

I’ve got about 8.5 years and still struggle with dealing with friends who get drunk and are complete assholes. I know I should have empathy but I just want to kick their ass. What I should do is Thank God (agnostic) I am sober today. If I was drinking I would have kicked his ass, faced the consequences, made amends, and lost friend(s).
