I’ve had something similar happen with United and received no voucher at all. Consider yourself lucky! United is the absolute worst, ruins days and trips
Take southwest next time
Delta gave me a $100 for almost the same thing. We were on the tarmac for 3 hours then came back. Check your CC benefits, you may have Trip Interruption insurance, which may help you cover some expenses that your incurred
you all are so kind, thank you for the advice. I have a lot to work with.
That is awful, I’m sorry you all had to deal with that!
I would suggest calling customer service at United and asking them about next steps. In addition, you should message the United Twitter account. I do this and it works really well in getting the attention of the support team.
Lastly, I know that AMEX and Chase Sapphire cards offer complimentary travel insurance - if you booked w a credit card then check the travel insurance policy and file a claim if they cover that.

May take a while but file a complaint for reimbursement via their website. I did this with another airline and got paid for my delays 6 months later lol. I sat on the tarmac for over an hour which made me miss my connecting flight.
Credit card benefits are your friend, particularly Amex platinum and chase sapphire reserve if you used those to book the flight
I think they still have benefits and trip protection. Check and see
Good luck with United and getting compensation. They destroyed my daughter's stroller and I never saw a dime.
That sucks. Similar thing happened to us with Iberia flying from Brussels, 9 hours delay (thankfully it wasn't overnight) with a toddler without stroller, they gave us €250 per person.
Might be very different with an US airline, but my recommendation is to submit the claim ASAP. In Europe, there are companies that will fight on your behalf for a fee, basically ambulance chasers, but might be worthy if you don't have the bandwidth. I did it all by myself, took like 2 months to get the money, but took me little to no time. I'd anticipate more push back from an US company though.
The EU has compensation requirements for certain delays and cancellations. A lot of Americans don’t realize this and leave money on the table.
Sorry this happened to you! But if you booked with a credit card with trip delay, you should be able to reimburse any expenses spent. Also, send an email to United explaining how the experience wasted your time.

Might depend on your status with the airline . I once got $300 vouchers from Lufthansa
Ohh. So sorry about this. What was the reason for the delay?
