Hi guys,
I am currently on notice period and my LWD is Sep 2, 2022. Today, I got an offer from state street mentioning my joining date as Sep 12, 2022 even though I already told HR that I would like to join from Sep 5 itself. How can I convince HR to prepone my joining date to Sep 5, 2022. I don't want to lose my one week salary guys. Pls suggest. State Street

I always say something like, “im not comfortable giving an exact number right now since I don’t know all the details of the role. Once I know more I can give an exact number but my range is 90-120k” that way you can negotiate more if you think the role will be more demanding after speaking with the hiring managers, if you end up interviewing
Yes—give a range. Don’t evade the question completely because that makes you seem unwilling to navigate the conversation
Don’t tell them. Ask them to tell you what salary is budgeted for the role.
It can't hurt to be honest and say whatever salary would motivate you to jump ship.
If you don't need to leave you hold all the leverage. It's the best way to consider an offer - may as well only look at offers that would really make a meaningful improvement in your life.
If the goal is purely more money, say you make 90 and need 95 to move.
There's probably other things to consider besides money though.
The only instance where it wouldn’t be okay is if it’s in the same network (in which case, they could check themselves).
As a rule, I wouldn’t drastically over-inflate but also there’s always more money on the table then their first offer.
Never be the first person to say a number… Tell them you’re negotiable and ask what the range is for the role. I saw a post on social from a recruiter who had a candidate accept an offer of $100k for a role that had a range up to 160k. Don’t play yourself…
But you’re right about not throwing out a number first.
