For SVP in a back office role at a place like Citi seems right. For comparison though, a revenue generating SVP role can be 3x that amount or even higher.
It's not a matter of title but a matter of job function.
I understand that, however, the base still seemed low. Glassdoor usually underreports and even that shows the average base for finance SVPs as 168k.
Sounds right (maybe a little low). What is the bonus range? Should constitute a good portion of tc and exceed your current bonus by quite a bit.
I was hoping to get some expected bonus percentages, but they wouldn’t divulge anything on it. So agreeing to a lower base with no idea on bonus didn’t make sense to me. I did say if the total comp gets me to a good number, I will be open to it.
I asked for a bonus range and she did not give me anything, just said it’s purely based on firm performance. I did mention that if the base + bonus gets me to a good number, I’ll be ok, but just didn’t get any info on it. Also I was expecting SVP level to be around 180-200k base.
I would look at the European banks. They pay more.
Did she say there was no wiggle room? Most companies underreport the base. So if the upper end is 165k, I'd imagine they expect a counter which would put you at your preferred range. (ie: counter at 187, and settle on 180 w/ maybe sign-on bonus or extra pto, etc. ).
Hope everything goes well!
That sounds reasonable. She asked if I would be open for a lateral move (base: 177k) , I told her I’d want a base increase of at least 10% especially as she didn’t seem to want to tell me anything about how much the bonus could be. I also said if base + bonus gets me to a good number, I’ll be open. Let’s see. Thanks for your input!
What market? NYC?
Yes.
IMO just go through w it the recruiter is ultimately not the person in charge of your salary.
I am thinking the same. Thanks!
SVP = roughly manager / senior manager?
SVP is probably 7-8 YOE
That is base correct? I’m positive bonus at minimum is 30% + you should get stocks and other perks? Your total comp could be closer to $250k-$300k (all depending on bonus and shares) and the work life balance working at a bank
That minimum is high. I used to work in Financial Services in CorpFin. SVP is probably 15-30% bonus depending on firm performance, with about 1/3 of the bonus paid out in RSUs.
Edited the bottom of the range down, 30 would certainly be max for great performance and a great year. 15 is more realistic to average performance and average year.
