Cut military budget by half
Cancel the F35 JSF, switch to Airbus / EADS for the refusing tanker.
Military absorbs a huge proportion of our budget. We are domestically well protected with allies on both borders and big effin oceans on the other sides. Though the US territories need more support (just like the Philippine territory got in WW II - HA)
Take the for profit out of health-care. If you want to be a doctor let the government pay and in return you are not burdened with stupid student loans and don't need to bill at rates to service those loans.
Reduce the billing administration in health-care. Single payer is the extreme end but remember fewer 50% of healthcare in the US is already single payer. Medicare, Medicaid, Tri care, veterans.
The scaremongering $30bn for Medicare for all is less than the $40bn that we will spend on medical insurance premiums for some over the same cycle. Top up UK style private coverage will surely continue to exist in the US
Look at both sides of the equation, not just the costs. Fixing broken people gets them as viable contributors to society. Fixing broken infrastructure is cheaper than replacing it and keeps people employed. Providing Pre K and affordable day care gets parents that want to work back to work increasing employment and GDP.
@GS Because in most things the efficiencies of competition offset the complexity and reduced bargaining power of a free market. That is not true of healthcare. There's literally a ridiculous amount of research and empirical evidence on this and you clearly have never had to go without healthcare in the United States at any point in your life.
Which idealistic benefits do you have in mind ?
