Had a stressful day. Made a rookie mistake and just feeling worn down. Billed 8 hours and still going. What do you on the bad days?

My boss, with 45+ years of experience as an attorney, told me (after I was worked up over a rookie mistake):

“It is called the practice of law for a reason, we are all just practicing.”

Now, whenever I’m having a bad day, I remember that moment and it helps so much.

A maestro was asked why he still practiced at an advanced age, “because I think I’m making progress”, he replied. We all are. It’s a dynamic profession.

Think about how you’ll feel about today one year from now or even two months from now. I expect that no one will remember.

like

Put the situation in perspective. Focus on what you learned, not what you did wrong. Move ahead with that knowledge and perspective. And, dont make the same mistake again.

like

Rookie mistakes happen don’t beat yourself up over it. As long as you didn’t blow a statute most rookie mistakes can be fixed.

Best advice I ever got when I worked as an intern was most mistakes can be fixed so long as you own it immediately, and admit it. You probably weren’t the first one to make the mistake and you definitely won’t be the last

Have a drink!

I try to catch some extra sleep. Going to bed early sounds like a defeat, but helps mind and body recover from stress.

Be kind to yourself. Sometimes, we need to recharge.

Remind myself that i can only do my best

Many things are fixable. Sometimes, not. After recharging, reflect, learn and move forward.

You passed law school, and the bar, fuck them for making you feel like you don't belong. You belong and you should have a chance to reach and fight for your dreams. Give yourself that chance and ignore the feeling, or ppl, that make you want to give up.

I'm with you. It's been a shitty few days. Good scents make me feel better. Hot shower with good smelling stuff. And lorazapan.
