Had an interview today and when I asked the controller why this position was open he basically talked shit about the employee in the current role who literally sits right outside the interview room

Definitely should be a concern. Very unprofessional behavior

like

Huge red flag

like

Said he was lazy and not ambitious and should have been fired 10 years ago because he's too old to still be a senior accountant. Controller is new to the company and ex B4 senior manager and he's clearing house and hiring all PA ppl. Position and pay are good I'm just a little concerned with his attitude towards his employees.

like

Lol @ making millions

like

Should this be cause for concern?

like

@RSM1 My thoughts exactly. Although he assured me that if I'm motivated to learn I'll be fine and his current staff are in their 40's and can barely learn excel and refuse to get better. Doesn't make what he said right. I didn't need to know that much detail.

like

Contrarian point of view: he trusts you and is giving you the heads up that these people are incompetent and there will be a restructuring. He has come in with a fresh point of view and recognized weaknesses in the environment, but he needs to onboard new people before fully cleaning house. You will become his confidant and make millions.

like

Sounds like you already know not to take it. Good luck.

like

Okay, serious question: you're the new controller at a company. You know the people are bad, but you also know that you don't know enough to run the show solo. You have to temporarily increase headcount, onboard people to perform the existing jobs, and then fire the others. Do you tell the new people they'll be training under someone who is getting fired? Do you tell everyone and risk losing all the experience before you can replace them?

like

This guy sounds like an ageism suit waiting to happen

like

Yea that's an awful fucking attitude to have, do not work there. Plenty of smart professional and BETTER ex-public personnel to work for. I would have honestly ended the interview myself if he was calling his employees "unmotivated" and other crap

like

Lmfao

Maybe you'll be next?

Gtfo

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle between audit senior 1 and sfa1. Up to you whether you want to take a chance on this guy. If he doesn't follow thorough with the restructuring won't you be annoyed at both his attitude and knowing you work with a bunch of lazy coworkers?

Currently in finance ops group at a PE shop in Canada. In late stages of interview process w GS in NYC for similar role but at the Associate level. All indications point to an offer being imminent but I have concerns with 1) title (junior VP’s in the group have +1/-1 YOE than me, 2) base feels a bit light given I have 9+ YOE (job description says top end is US$160K)…Nervous for a change as current role is very comfy but nothing ever grows in comfort zones. Thoughts?

I did well in the interviews but still did not get selected. I am stuck, please guide me.

Currently fully remote as a contractor. Managers are super flexible & understanding. They’re interested in my interests and catering to them. I’ve been interviewing passively and I’m in the final stage at another company. Both companies are great, stable, seem like great teammates. The other company is hybrid and 3x’s in office. As a single mom I honestly am exhausted as is fully remote but I miss the people interaction. They’re offering me about $15-25k more. Not sure it’s even worth it. Contd

Toxic partner who is tech illiterate just chewed me out because I didn’t know why an email from a paralegal didn’t make it’s way to the client. It’s been the partner’s case for two months, I’ve never heard of the client, and had not seen the email from the paralegal because I wasn’t cc’d. It took every ounce of self control to keep from telling her I’ve already accepted a partner position at another firm but I just couldn’t forego seeing the look on her face when I tell her on Friday.

I feel bad about wanting to take days off because we’re both very committed to working hard and don’t want to miss out on opportunities especially as juniors, but I’m starting to feel quite burnt out from not taking any real days off this year.

Would love to take them all at the end of the year, but is that a bad idea since Q4 can be busy? Just not sure what’s the norm since it’s my first year. Any advice is appreciated ❤️
