For people that like to travel in style: have any of you figured out how to keep your nice suitcases from becoming destroyed at the airport?

You buy a cheap suitcase instead.

like

You don't. Suitcases are meant to be expendable. Their contents, not so much. Expect to wear out your suitcase.

like

Purchase a nice carry-on (e.g., Tumi) and less expensive checked luggage.

A quality suitcase with battle scars is something to be proud of!!! Note I said quality not shiney nor cheap disposable.

Coming from a Latin American-based family, you definitely don’t want a fancy suitcase. When my family visits our relatives in other countries, we notice that the tourists with fancy luggages more frequently have their property stolen/broken into or are scammed by taxi services at the airport. Not always wise to draw attention to yourself.

like

I just buy new luggage with every trip then throw it away. My goto is Louis Vuitton luggage. I just don't like the way it looks after 1 trip.

funny

Same here. Well with socks. But not socks. Really just those food containers I get with Door dash. Reusing them is just so beneath me.

Simple, inexpensive / sturdy suitcase is the way to go. I always get something colourful so easy to spot. The one I use most often was maybe $200? Do NOT get brand name luggage that looks expensive. It will “get lost”, or “inspected”....you’re just asking for more negative attention

like

My valet takes great care of my suitcase. If I must fly commercial I direct my conceirge to bubble wrap it at check in.

funny

I don’t check luggage.

My Tumi is still great after 10 years. It obviously doesn’t look brand new, but worth the $ for the quality
