Had anyone given up on getting their cpa?

I gave up a week ago. Took reg 4 times and audit twice. I’m over it. Got a new industry job that doesn’t give a damn about the CPA.

To those trying. Please don’t give up. Hang in there. I lost track the number of times I failed but YOU can pass. I passed, YOU CAN TOO.

I passed all 4 within a month. But don’t feel like taking the extra classes (2 more online) to get it. Just left big 4 for finance. Ah well sunk cost

Moved to FDD, then got offers in banking and strategic finance. Don’t need a cpa at all in these jobs. Why spend the extra money, it’s all sunk cost at this point

I dropped it when I got into Tech risk and got my CISA. Now working GRC in fintech and looking to pursue either CISM or CISSP.

Anybody know the approx percentage of those who enter public accounting as a CPA Eligible candidate actually go on to get their CPA?

EY3 - how would data just for your graduating class of accounting graduates give you the data for the overall profession? 🤦‍♀️

Once I spent a significant amount of money trying and not being able to pass I realized it just wasn’t in the cards. I would rather spend my money investing in assets and being able to afford a house then to the CPA board.

Please make sure to tell that story on your next job interview.

It’s an exam. Yes it’s hard, but it’s just an exam and they let you take it when you want (vs only in May and November) and one at a time. As someone else noted, some states used to require that you sit for all four parts at one time (and you had to get minimum grades on the ones you failed for you to get credit on the parts you passed) and some states required you to sit for two.

You all graduated college so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you’re reasonably intelligent. You’re given study tools for the exam and have access to plenty of practice exams. You can pass the exam if you apply yourself, learn the material and learn the exam. It’s hard but it’s doable. Don’t give up.

A lot. They got EA instead
