Better to play it safe.
Don't feel stupid. You couldn't have imagined a cheeto would become president. Stay strong OP but lay low
I understand OP - it's a hassle for sure but as long as your application goes through you are in a good place for a few years and can then travel :)
Not really true that they need to update the i-94 to apply for H1B. I guess they just want to be safe. As far as I know, if your i-94 is updated and you are selected in the lottery, you will get a RFE requesting the updated I-94. But the main thing is to get selected
Yeah. Because trump is really all about labor relations as evidenced by his mistreatment of previous employees and contractors.
Abused? Like do you know how H1B works? Like for me to get my H1B pr H1B amendment EY has to submit labor condition application to prove I have a prevailing wage. To do so they have to align it with salary data in the metro areas I'm working in and I have to provide 3 pay stubs to prove my salary. One way I could think of how h1b can be abused is someone in another country pays the company to put in the application for them, which is illegal
Errr why would you book ticket before getting the h1b in october? I thought that information is advised on every website. Or do you mean amendment?
@EY1 I'm still on F1. I knew I shouldn't travel after April, so I planned to travel in mid March. Turned out that isn't ok as well.
@ KPMG 1 Thanks. I planned the trip a while back. I guess it's safe to just stay here for now.
No you are not supposed to travel on OPT
Lawyers told me not to travel in March because they're finalizing paperwork early March. They can't update my I-94 by the time I come back to apply for H1B
Yup, I don't want to risk it
@kpmg1 this has nothing to do with trump, cry elsewhere
AA1 but cutting down on h1b affect people in other professions too. Better way to do it is to limit h1b to people who hold a degree from an accredited US university or college
Yeah ok SA1 keep dreaming. Yes the h1b cuts will affect other industries but h1bs as a whole have been massively abused. They aren't being removed just lessened and as you suggested there's certain ways to ensure they aren't abused.
As far as I know, some tech consultancy companies apply a great number of applications to play the number game while the need is nonexistent. Some people get picked in the lottery without actually using the spots. People who actually get through don't really get pay market price. If you look it up, some company got busted recently for their payroll scheme to make it look like the salary is higher than it really is. EY doesn't abuse H1B, but it is abused.
EY1 tech companies abuse the system and put up job postings they never intended to fill with ridiculous requitements. This is extremely well documented. They get tech h1bs and work them to death at risk of cancellation of the h1b.
Tech companies use h1bs way more than PA. They are pretty rare in PA and don't suffer the same systematic issues.
Mostly because PA is actually perpetually understaffed so there's legitimate need for some h1bs.
H1B cancellation? No. After they got H1B they can find another sponsor. The old company can't provoke once the amendment is done. So it's not like they have the upper hand. Agree they abuse it a lot but outside PA there are a lot more professions that need H1B.
