Had to pack up my work station to take back to the office to starting working in the office again. Did anyone else feel extremely sad when their remote work ended?

No cause I’d quit

Working on finding something else. Supposedly it could go back for employees that want it but there isn’t a time frame for that happening.

Never ended

That sounds so nice!

I haven’t been to the office since 12/15/2019. Not planning on going anytime soon.

Just changed firms exactly for this reason. Many reasons (of course) but specifically hadn't been to the office since March of 2020; and I wasn't going back unless it was to resign. Done!
Plenty of fantastic opportunities out there with work from home or work from anywhere autonomy for you all, and better compensation, too. #GreatResignation

Love this! And I agree it is so archaic to think being in the office five days a week is necessary given what has happened in the last two years.

like

Nope I think remote work is awful and moved closer to an office so I could go in more frequently

like

Do you have to be in the office 5 days a week? That’s brutal

like

Now yea we do.

Wait…is that your office before or after? Because if it’s before, well, you’re aren’t really packing a lot right?

I was confused because didn’t EY get us monitors, docking station, etc. plus you already had your laptop when we started WFH. When I went back to the office, I just went back to an old cube with everything already there, and my home office is still the same as well.

Maybe it’s different if you started during the pandemic, I guess you only have one set of office things? But still…all the cubes have monitors right? I still don’t know why you just have a laptop and a desk, not even a power cord 😂 You sure you aren’t being a little dramatic here?

Yes. Like a Sade song.

Yes. But not really. Because I never got to work remotely during covid. Been in the office the whole time.

Yes. Yes it is…I’m getting in my car right now…

Hoping for some advice here!!

I’m a senior sales person that just left my first job (where I was ranked top 10% in sales, worked for 5 years, qualified for presidents club 3 times & was very well known & respected) for a new company that will definitely be better, but I am starting over. Also, working from home for the first time (last job deemed “essential”).

What are some things you all have done to stay motivated during the climb of starting over? Also when learning to work from home?

I'm a software engineer, and I've been working remotely for my entire career. I love the flexibility and autonomy that remote work gives me, but there have definitely been times when it's been hard to feel like I'm on an even playing field with my colleagues in the office.

Hey people, I’m looking to get some ergonomic tech for my new job , where they are giving me a MacBook Pro. Does anyone have suggestions for a mouse and an external keyboard? I have a set that I use for my current computer, which is a Lenovo thinkpad, but not sure it will be compatible. I have multiple herniated discs , so trying to be set with my wfh station before starting 🤞

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.

It’s been a grueling 18 months, for everyone. There’s a unique story I’d like to share and it’s my own but I have to believe it’s not only mine. I was privileged enough to be able to WFH during the pandemic and change jobs to a fully remote job during this time. The isolation has become so complete, with the lack of connection and professional rapport or daily respect/clarity thru slack convos and sporadic zoom - I’m at an all time mental low barely able to start this Monday morning.

Is there irony in the fact that HR and leadership of sales organizations ghost candidates? The very people that stress over prospects disappearing turn around and do the same thing to people they've interviewed 2, 3, or more times.

I'm 4 for 4 this month being ghosted for roles that I'm well qualified for and either advanced in the process or told I would be.

This is brutal.

My company is notorious for not giving raises unless you ask. My direct report lacks boundaries and has said things like “I haven’t gotten one so…”. There is no report above her anymore as he recently left. Do I meet with the CEO? Or send and email with my request for an increase? I do not trust my direct report to have my back or even take it to the next level for approval.

I worked at a large insurance defense firm for 4 years out of law school. I really enjoyed the work itself, but the hour expectations kept increasing and I was getting burnt out. I decided to try a new type of law and have been at the new firm 3 months. I have way less responsibilities and none of my own cases. I’m worried this was a wrong move/too far of a step backwards. I know I don’t see myself here long term, but I’m not sure how long I need to stay to avoid looking like a job hopper—help!

I have a constant unease in my mind. Whatever I do, I don't want to. It's hard to explain, but here are some examples: When I work on a project, I think about another one, or jump on another unrelated thing; When I'm watching something, I think about a thing I should be doing instead; When I do yoga, I check the time quite frequently. I feel like whatever I do, I can't immerse myself in or enjoy it. What is this? A mental disorder? I guess the Covid finally broke my mind...

We had a really dumb fight last night but it feels like it may be the one that breaks the camels back.
