You should be raising your hand to the relevant parties that the workstream is off target, and document that in every email and status report. Mark as red, off target, escalate, etc
You want one of these scenarios to happen:
1. People realize workstream is in red, and provide you support/resources needed to fix
2. Workstream goes south but you have documented that your raised hand and avoid blame
You don't want:
3. Workstream fails and you are blamed for not raising your hand
This is clear and to the point, thank you
Raise your hand and ask for help. Do it asap.
Pro
Doesn't matter if its outside your firm's expertise. Escalating risks/issues is still important and fundamentally what protects you and the firm.
Its incumbent on your firm to give you additional support and hire more people who can help you even if they're subcontractors.
They won't do any of that if YOU don't tell them that there is a problem.
Trust me. I've been in your shoes before and have the scars to prove it.
