So I just did my first post-Covid client dinner. Was at their initiation, not mine. I normally really enjoy, but could not stop watching the spittle and food particles flying across the table. I really don’t feel like I can turn down a client a social invite, especially given the slow down in work across much of our firm - curious how other’s are/would handle?

Hi Designers,
Been working as an Assistant Technician for 3 years (2 years excluding pandemic) pay is £21k now £22 adjusted for inflation. I will be completing my Part 1 in architecture but also have a degree in Technology, should I find a different company after graduation or take roles offering £30-45k as an Architectural Technologist/Technician.

Any partners here that can share how they handled maternity leave? I'm early in my pregnancy (~9 weeks) but starting to feel anxious / unethical about certain work-related things, like new business calls. I keep having the conversations - the outcome of which is clients expecting to have me as their advisor - knowing that I'll be at least mostly unavailable during the fall busy season. Is it unethical to have these calls and not be transparent? (Continued in comments)

I just had a meeting with my direct supervisor, and a coworker(Client-facing Financial Planner I support) where my supervisor began the meeting talking about my next steps for promotion, and then transitioned to a Performance Improvement Plan(PIP). The document included the phrasing “failure to meet these standards will result in further disciplinary action,” but they said it was not a disciplinary action. Am I off-base in thinking PIPs are primarily used as a last step before termination?

I'm exhausted. Our district has scripted everything we do in a classroom--very little wiggle room to slow down when we need to. Kids feel like they're in prison; teachers are deflated. If it isn't a curriculum that's so tight kids and teachers can't keep up, there's the district progress monitoring tests and debriefs that have taken up to 5 days of instruction time--another reason things are so tight. I'm very happy to be retiring in the spring. My 10 hour school days are done.

Our district is moving all employees to district pay starting next school year. There were multiple employees that were employed/paid through our local temp agency. While it’s great that they are now offering this, the downfall is that those employees that have been working at the school for 5 plus years will be getting the same pay as those that are new hires. I feel that this is unfair to those that have been there longer and have pre experience vs those just starting out.

There is a huge number of questions and concerns about districts not worried for the health of the teachers, faculty, staff at their school. At what point do we get our unions involved? There hasn’t been a teacher strike in a long time. I would think this would be a legitimate reason. I’m an only child who cares for my elderly parents. Teacher salary, can’t afford to pay someone to do it during this time.
