Joined the PR and had to pay pension but then I left Singapore and moved to Germany after 2 years and it costs more to pay for all the admin and notary than what I can actually withdrew from what I paid after tax... so I threw that money away in the end. How bad is it to decline a job offer you’ve accepted?

I have an offer now that is nice but not in my ideal industry. I did the phone screen and waiting on word if I proceed at a company and role that excite me. Problem is I need to sign by tomorrow and ofc there isn’t a guaranteed offer for the role that’s still in the interview process.

I haven’t gotten a second interview, so this might be a bit forward but I wanted to know what’s the ideal start date. I am willing to start as soon as possible, but I’ve seen on other boards people talk about starting a week or two after their official end date.

I know as attorneys of color, we often find ourselves being in a room with dozens of attorneys and still were the only attorney of color (I’m a brown woman, very often the only brown person AND only woman in the room). I’m starting to attend more client meetings and depositions, trials, etc. and I’m noticing it more and it’s starting to distract me bc I start overthinking it in the moment. How do y’all deal with that?

I'm frustrated and don't know where to go with this.

I was recently in consideration for a promotion but got passed over. I was told , in confidence, that I viewed as less serious about the role because I teleworked while colleagues were getting back to the office. That was viewed by senior leaders as being less serious about the job.

I mean, I have a job but I feel I will never advance if I use the benefits offered. Is this the same everywhere? Do teleworking lawyers ever get promoted?

Need a gut check—is it crazy to lateral for not vibing with your firm? My firm is great on paper but they usually hire by word of mouth, so attorneys tend to be of similar background. I’m the only POC attorney & don’t have much common w/ everyone else. I’m worried that this will affect my development, since partners & senior associates prefer working w/ associates they get along with. I’m friendly and professional, but sometimes I feel I’m overlooked because I don’t click with them as much.

So my firm went out an email about the current “racial tensions” and encouraged people to read the diversity plan/statement.
I just want to reply all “but do black lives matter?” so badly.
