It’s definitely weird, and this is no doubt an unpopular opinion, but I never understood people’s anger or frustration at company logo rebrands. Website / app redesigns definitely as they often muck up what was a perfectly fine user experience. But a logo? If it’s not your company, or your name isn’t on it, why care?

likesmart

Care because if this is where brand design is headed, and it is admired by the gen pop, then I have to get on board and find my way in this. (Btw as creatives, we should care.) No anger or frustration here, just a genuine dislike as it doesn’t feel right for the new Harry’s conglomerate. It’s too playful, overly irreverent, to the point of goofy, imho

To me it strikes the perfect balance of over-thought and under-considered. But that’s just me. I’m probably also old and uncool.

Feels outdated already but well done.

My first thought was that this was a rebrand to the razors, Harry’s Razors, but a quick site scroll says this is a (re?)branding of the parent company Harry’s Inc, which comprises the razor brand and some others (that I’ve never heard of, but now I know).
So in that case any move here was smart imo. Does it look good? It’s fine. But I know I certainly didn’t know there were other brands in their portfolio. Now I can say I do. And looks like they kept the razor branding (that I do like) intact. Sounds like they needed to get the big picture on people’s radars and maybe it’s working?

I would go with your intuition. I agree with your initial comments.

Over the past 2 decades or so logos have become less and less prevalent. Now it’s mainly just about choosing a typeface and writing the company name. Even using that first letter as a logo like Facebook or google on their apps. It’s a shame because logos used to be so creative and interesting. Chermayff and Geismar, prob one of the most famous logo designers who’s logos have been almost unchanged for like 60 years have told their staff to go in this direction now because it’s easy and cheap and most companies don’t care as they used to and will change their “logo” typeface every few years now instead of iconic logos that are would last like 100+ years.

This Harry’s redesign and many other new brands that are doing this are taking influence from Paula scher and her work like from The Public Theater. I’m not a fan of that type of work. It was interesting when it was new and fresh but this Harry’s design is pretty poor in its execution. It’s not pleasing to the eye

Speaking of Harry’s, did you see the launch ad for their competitor Jeremy’s? Whether or not you agree with the politics of the company, you have to admit the commercial itself is well done. And the tagline "Shut Up and Shave" is gold.

Just took a look. Love the shut up and shave, and commercial is well done. Jeremy clearly knows the audience he wants.

Probably the antithesis of this bowl - but need some advice. This is for a house in a Southern metro. Built in 1960s completely remodeled in 2000s with some very recent additional remodeling of kitchen and bathrooms. Well kept house. The price will be nearly $1M, the same as something built in 2010+ with similar square footage (because a lot of the price is the lot, its a super expensive zip). Should I steer clear because of the age? Will it cost a ton in maintenance and utility bills?
