Harshest feedback you’ve ever received?

All from the same project manager, on my 1st project as a new grad: 4 months in: "you should be able to deliver as much as impact as your SME teammate (who had 18 years of industry experience) --you have one month to prove it to me" 5 months in: "Yes, but are you really working the 9 hours you're logging in your time sheet?" 6 months in: *after client "supposedly" saw us on Facebook* "Team, I'm not here to tell you what you should or shouldn't do, but don't go on facebook/social media, but I'm not telling you what to do.." 12 months in, after rolling me off: "It seems <my name> is not cut out for the work we do here at this company. I would not staff him again. 1/5"

Lol at people who think their experiences are universally applicable (e.g. Principal 5) - I've charged 9 hours daily for every single project at Deloitte. Just how it is here for many projects.

“I don’t take promotions to senior seriously. You are only getting promoted based off your high utilization, otherwise you worked hard but didn’t technically act like a senior” - Manager after I worked 12-16 hour days consistently for months and also was the sole person extended on the engagement, per client’s request. “You are getting way to comfortable here. Do you think you actually work here? Buy lunch like the rest of us” - Manager because I packed my own breakfast/ lunch and normally left it in the client’s refrigerator. I would have been homeless if I ate $15 lunches everyday in NYC on small associate salary at the time.

He's a senior now I'm assuming he doesn't need to to pack lunches anymore

D1 that’s a feedback I’ve received

likefunnysmarthelpful

Client “reply all’d” asking why I was added to the team.

likefunnyupliftingsmart

@D3 @D1 I used to shrug and say “whose life are we saving here?” Really pissed off my managers :P

likefunnyupliftingsmarthelpful

Senior partner: “I went through the deck you sent, which slide should I look for original insight?”

likefunnyupliftingsmarthelpful

Lmao ok thats hella snarky

like

There is a sense of calmness around you. I mean wtf- I am supposed to be a freak and run around naked in confusion?

likefunnyhelpfuluplifting

D1’s comment has appeared in my notifications numerous times this week, and it is no less hilarious every time I see it.

funny

Similar to D1, "You seem happy and calm. The sense of urgency does not show” - duh 🙄 should I run around the client site like a chicken with its head cut off? Is it wrong to be happy ?? Why do I need to show the sense of urgency and fidget around like a school kid? I think there is more credit to me if I keep calm and meet timelines 😏

😂😂😂😂😂😂 WELLL SAID!! Because same

You're too direct to be a woman, as a woman you should be more subtle, like when you want your husband to give you a purse, you subtly ask for it, not directly...impact that matters right?

likefunnyupliftinghelpfulsmart

I’ve received this feedback as well. Although they were careful enough not to say the female part but it was soooo obvious

likesmarthelpfulfunny

A partner once called me “useless"

likefunnyupliftingsmarthelpful

Funny how a partner calls anyone else useless /s

likefunny

You know you’re a senior, right?

likefunnysmart

I think they meant senior associate, right? Not as in elderly?

likefunnysmart

Client: “I paid for this?"

likefunnyhelpful

Thanks for the backup slides. Where is the main deck?

likefunny

Senior Partner: “You aren’t here to take notes. Open your mouth tomorrow and contribute. We aren’t Deloitte for god sake.” This after 1 day of a 2 day client workshop and I was a very young associate. SP was snarky but in general love that guy. #truestory

Deloitte 84 - I feel the mentee would be better served with some predetermined role and talking points. Even talking is learning.

One of my SMs told me that "its not consultant like to bring coffee creamer to the client site." Mind you this was a local project (maybe 10 min away from me) and all they served in the break room was powdered cream so I figured to buy cream and leave it at the office. I left the company shortly afterwards.

likefunnysmartupliftinghelpful

Well they would hate me cuz I travel with a whole week worth of food and don’t hesitate to store it in the clients fridge (sorry not sorry)

likehelpfulfunny

You have a great technical skill set & in depth application expertise; but lack “core consulting skills - “aka making decks” (I’m a technical architect.....not a ppt architect) 👊🏻😵

likefunnyupliftingsmarthelpful

This is why I don’t plan on being on consulting forever. Would rather be respected for my knowledge, insight & execution of deliverables than my ability to make PowerPoints

like

^ E1 - we are doing harsh feedback, not humble brags.

likefunnyupliftingsmart

Is it in? I can’t feel anything

likefunny

Bad either way lol

like

"You're not in college anymore"

likefunnysmart

"you need to improve or you might not find yourself in this project much longer." Received as an analyst from the consultant on a project and the senior consultant that replaced her. Both left the company shortly after, projecting much? 😊

Let’s discuss gender pay gaps by assessing our own discrepancies. I’ll start. I’m a 29 YO female, almost 6 years experience total, at a 115 base, guaranteed 126 if I meet utilization, with potential for more bonus. No target school or MBA. I’m happy with where I’m at, but are my male counterparts on here making more or relatively the same?

Marriage or promotion 😞 I’m on track to make partner at my company. Due to the audit services we sell, we have to disclose all financial relationships, including those of our SOs. I’m engaged to a private investor, and there is no way he is going to disclose/sell investments because my company tells him to (I don’t blame him; I wouldn’t do this, in his position, either). This means I have to quit if I want to marry him 😞 Anyone else experience this kind of compromise / challenge? Any advice?

Considering a move from Delivery side of consulting to the Sales side (i.e. selling work, RFPs, opportunity/deal conversion). Been in delivery for over 20 years and feel I need a change. I get to "test drive" the role and do it for a year. Any one been on the Sales side and Delivery side for a time and have an opinion and why they like one over the other? Thanks!

Considering switching as a 5th year from a small litigation practice to transactional role at a different firm. The new firm has stated there will be no litigation. 90% of my current work is cases which a partner is the primary attorney so they will have to figure it out if I leave (I’ll give proper notice). However, I have a small number (10-15) of active cases which are my own. What is the protocol for telling my clients I’m leaving and can’t take them with me?
