Not recommended. Complicated policies hide really big expenses taken out of your earnings. Better to buy an index fund in a retirement account or after-tax account.

Yes — when I did the math, the expenses were so high — makes you think about opportunity cost

I have. Opened a $100k policy for a monthly premium of ~$120. I’ll only take a loan out of if we’re in a recession. Otherwise it’s just insurance.

I'm a first yr attorney at an insurance firm and am in the process of interviewing for an in-house position at a tech company. The position is pretty much generalist, but I get the impression I'd be working mostly on SaaS and partnership transactions. I definitely think I would like the transactional work better, but I am concerned about the long-term earning potential vs. partnership. How common is it to eventually make $350k+ in-house/how difficult is it to transition back to a firm? Thanks!

I want to take a sabbatical. No one else at my firm has taken one - even our attorneys who have had kids are usually back the week after, our female lawyers who have kids typically take a month to six weeks but it is unpaid. I’m a partner, I know it will be without pay, and I really need some mental health time without email/deadlines. I have thought about leaving the firm but would prefer to recharge if possible. Is this a bad idea?

Has anyone negotiated pay at a hospital or company that states they have different levels/tiers of fixed pay for so-and-so profession and can’t budge? I’ve worked in other fields prior to healthcare and have a hard time believing every (pick profession like PT) gets paid exactly (pick random number like $72,345). I’m skeptical because it sounds like “we have levels/tiers of fixed pay and can’t budge” is just an excuse to shut down negotiation right away. Can anyone share their experience?

Finding out the range for Pharmacy Techs is $19 -$28. Been lowballed like hell. Not sure how to even negotiate for more. And this 1% yearly raise doesn't keep up with cost of living.

Learning how to cook is a great money saver and allows you high quality meals that beat what most restaurants and fast food can offer.

For those of you with separate Roth IRAs and 401ks, do you allocate investments differently between the two? My 401k is like 20x the size of Roth and is entirely in a target date fund. Roth right now is just in VTI but am wondering if I should pick some higher risk / higher reward investments in there.

What's the optimal way to split your investments across Roth IRA, 401k, and brokerage? Right now I have 100% of all of them in index funds.

But say I'm close to retirement in the future and need to reallocate 10% to bonds. And later 20%, and later 30%, etc. Where do you put the bond portion? Not Roth IRA since I believe that should be the most aggressive. Is it brokerage? Or is it 401k depending on if it's traditional or Roth?
