I'm a first yr attorney at an insurance firm and am in the process of interviewing for an in-house position at a tech company. The position is pretty much generalist, but I get the impression I'd be working mostly on SaaS and partnership transactions. I definitely think I would like the transactional work better, but I am concerned about the long-term earning potential vs. partnership. I want to take a sabbatical. No one else at my firm has taken one - even our attorneys who have had kids are usually back the week after, our female lawyers who have kids typically take a month to six weeks but it is unpaid. I’m a partner, I know it will be without pay, and I really need some mental health time without email/deadlines. I have thought about leaving the firm but would prefer to recharge if possible. Is this a bad idea?

Has anyone negotiated pay at a hospital or company that states they have different levels/tiers of fixed pay for so-and-so profession and can’t budge? I’ve worked in other fields prior to healthcare and have a hard time believing every (pick profession like PT) gets paid exactly (pick random number like $72,345). I’m skeptical because it sounds like “we have levels/tiers of fixed pay and can’t budge” is just an excuse to shut down negotiation right away. Can anyone share their experience?

Finding out the range for Pharmacy Techs is $19 -$28. Been lowballed like hell. Not sure how to even negotiate for more. And this 1% yearly raise doesn't keep up with cost of living.

What's the optimal way to split your investments across Roth IRA, 401k, and brokerage? Right now I have 100% of all of them in index funds.
