I was in the same boat, trying to decide to vaccinate, or not. I am a man of prayer, and during my decision making this past summer, I was bullied too, and rejected by some people close to me that I have since forgiven, but not forgotten. I am so sorry that you are getting the hate too. I approached it with solid logic and discernment, in the midst of people reacting with strong emotions and fatigue. What made me decide to get it at the end of the summer is I got over my own personal fear about: 1. the uncertainty of the long-term effects of the vaccine, and 2. the fear contracting the virus and potential fallout. Also, now that Pfizer is licensed, it was a little bit more reassuring. I still don't trust it, but I know it will protect me for now. Now that I made that decision, it is pressure off my shoulders, and I continue to take precautions to protect those around me and trust in God. The vaccine won't do that. I hope this helps somewhat. I will remember you in my rosary today. God bless you!

CMS1 I agree with you. Everyone has to be able to do the same soul searching and come to their own decision. What is right for one is not always right for others. I think one of the elephants in the room is also antibodies from having had COVID already. I have not had COVID and have been vaccinated. I take care of my MIL who is 92 and I wanted to protect her. If that wasn’t the case I might not have gotten the shot. It’s not one size fits all. It has to be right for you.

If you're unwilling to take the small step of getting vaccinated in order to keep yourself and others safe (and despite what a lot of idiots are claiming, the vaccines are well tested, safe, and effective, so you're definitely much less likely to get sick or to get others sick if you're vaccinated), you probably shouldn't be allowed to work with kids. You've got a choice as to whether to get vaccinated. It would be absolutely legal to compel you, but you're given a choice. Given that you're choosing to put society as a whole at risk if you choose not to do your part and get vaccinated, I'm not really going to be upset if there are some consequences if you choose badly.

likefunnysmarthelpful

Vaccine side effects happen in weeks. We've been vaccinating people for nearly a year, and billions of doses have been given out. Even if you had an argument a year ago, you're certainly wrong now.

This debate is hysterical. Teachers have to get numerous shots to be employed or if you change schools, you have to get shots again. Why is this sooooo hard! We are supposed to be the educators. Person up and roll up your sleeve. This is no brainer. I have booster, and if I need a fourth shot I will line up. Why do you want to take a chance of having a tube put down your throat. I think it is funny that people don't trust medicine, but if they get Covid they run to the hospital.... REALLLY!

likesmarthelpfulfunny

...and too crazy.

funny

I’m in favor of vaccination and don’t see how this is different than all the other required vacs. I think our state is too lenient on exemptions and that they should only be for medical with a doctor’s note.

likefunnysmart

In my district, we are required to get the shot or get tested twice a week. Evidently, "my body, my choice" only applies to abortion.

likesmartfunny

Abortions are relevant since the courts have ruled people only have a right to abortions because of health privacy laws. Do people only have the right to privacy in some cases but not others? And don’t tell me they lose the right because they are endangering others. Multiple studies have shown vaccinated are just as likely to catch and spread Covid.

Everyone has a choice. Unless you have a medical reason to not get the vaccine, yours is just the ignorant one.

likesmartfunny

You are a preschool teacher. You work with one of our vulnerable populations who CANNOT be vaccinated yet. You get the vaccine to protect THEM. Any other choice is purely selfish, and your employer has every right to give you that ultimatum.

likefunny

You do have a choice whether or not to be vaccinated. Your employer has a choice of whether to mandate the vaccine. If they mandate, and you choose not to get it, then you are choosing not to be employed there. If my employer mandates some behavior that I completely disagree with, I can give in or expect to need to find another place of employment. Just like we teach our students: We all have choices, but there are consequences to our choices.

likesmarthelpfulfunny

The problem is the employer is mandating an EUA...emergency use authorization which is what everyone is still getting b/c the FDA approvided Corminaty won't be available until 2023. There is no liability protection for employees. Will the employer pay for medical costs if an employee has a vaccine injury and is mandated? No. For anyone who tests for the EUA PCR tests, there is a waiver that exempts all employers (school district) from any liability. Yes there are consequences to our choices. The waiver my husband signs for his school district (for the PCR EUA test) also says the district is exempt from federal and state laws - and they. I would say caveat emptor, "buyer beware," the principle that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before a purchase is made. However there are no options to check the quality and suitability of goods with mandates - if it is required to continue the job. When there are mandates, it is hard to find another place of employment. Who really profits? Is it you or the companies?

We do not have vaccine mandates in out system. We have teachers that have be vaccinated and teachers that have chosen not to be vaccinated. I do not believe that this vaccine needs to be mandated. I had the virus about 3 weeks ago and I was able to do just fine without the vaccine. My family all tested negative and only one is vaccinated. I am sorry that your system is ok with losing a teacher over something that should be a choice. Are they going to fill you job with a substitute? Do substitutes have to be vaccinated to sub in your school?

like

Very good point about filling job with a sub or professional. I feel there would be less leaving the profession if people would take this virus pandemic seriously. What happens when someone not as lucky as the previous person who “faired just fine without Vax” was less lucky .... then there’d surely be a sub! Stop politicizing the Vax and do what is right for your community.... science (the non-Fox news type) reveals the worthiness of a vaccine during a virus outbreak. Hey, don’t all kids have to have the MMR to attend school? I wonder why? Hmmmm....

likehelpful

Thankfully, the vaccine is not mandated here, only encouraged. I’m definitely paying attention to the coverage of the airline pilots and the healthcare workers who are protesting these mandates and fighting against them. My daughter is a nursing student and, to complete her clinicals, is being told he must get the vaccination. My husband is calling a lawyer today about that.

likefunnyuplifting

I heard that for pilots who get the vaccine they feel it is "career ending," as the "vaccine" can have side effects that can end a pilots career. A pilot 40 and older must renew /gets a health test every six months. In order to fly a commercial jetliner, pilots must repeatedly meet strict physical fitness standard. Once you lose your FAA medical, you're not flying. Your career is over. This doesn't just impact pilots it impacts anyone who flies. shttps://www.aopa.org/go-fly/medical-resources/airman-medical-certification

My thought is that you shouldn't have a job where you willingly put your clients at risk.

likesmartfunny

If the vaccine works, and you take it, why are you worried if I take it?

Just checked…same name so probably the person before who was attacking anyone with a slightly different opinion and name calling. Very intolerant person.

My first thought is based on the number of spelling mistakes in your short post, it's probably best that you not continue to teach. I'm sure I'll be attacked for this response, but so be it. Seriously, you're a teacher, learn to proofread your own work.

likefunny

Massachusetts, this wins the best answer!! And yes, you are a teacher and if you make that many spelling mistakes, you should not be teaching!!!

I would be furious! I would seek legal council as well.

likeupliftinghelpfulfunny

There is no legal recourse

likefunny

Just do it. At this point, there is no reason to not get vaccinated. Nothing is going to happen to you by getting vaccinated except for some temporary side effects. Just do it. Just do it. Just do it.

like

Yep. That's the total confirmed, or was a few weeks ago, last time I checked.

THIS HAS BEEN TALKED TO DEATH. No one here is changing anything by arguing about it. Can we please move past this?

History will record that the so-called ignorant, science-ignoring resistant people chose wisely. I'm not sure why more people have not woken up to "corporate science" yet, but I believe they will in time. Unless we descend into a communist state, which is totally possible. We are well under way. In that event, facts and true history will be written so it favors the state's decisions. God help us!

likefunny

Yep, that's the history those wackos would write. But like I pointed out, because they think that way, more and more of them are dying preventably, so hopefully they won't get to write it.

In Ca. those who do not have Covid Vac need to submit to a weekly nasal swab. (Which everyone should because vaccinated still get Covid and can transmit it the same as unvaccinated.) As far as I know to date, no one is going to loose a job from not being unvaccinated. President Biden's "mandate" was only in a speech which has been widely circulated, but no legally written law has been made.

likehelpful

I am sorry this is happening to our teachers, nurses, flight attendants, etc. It is NOT mandatory, just highly recommended to get ANY vaccine and keep our jobs. I am not sure why the COVID vaccine is any different.

likeuplifting

^ & at the end of the day it is wrong. No one should be mandated to do anything to their bodies as a job condition.

likeupliftingsmart

Yes! CCSD has made vaccinations mandatory. You wont lose your career, just request a Religious Exemption like I'm going to do.

likesmartfunny

WES2, absolutely, I cannot imagine Mormons putting up with that. Y'all are all about community and helping others. Lying about a religious exemption would be a pretty severe conversation with God!
