Why is it recommended you give a company 2 weeks notice when you are leaving but at the same time, when they are laying you off/firing you, they typically do it on the spot. I have known countless people layed off/fired on the spot over the years (especially after busy season) and everyone else when they leave give 2 week notice. Why should we relinquish power to corporations? Corporations really don't care about us. They pretend they do.

Need advice: currently unemployed. got laid off last week. still applying and interviewing daily but can’t get over this one opportunity. the process has dragged on for a really long time. had a convo with the COO 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard back sense. I’ve emailed HR and the COO but no response. I feel I’ve been ghosted but at the same time I’m still holding onto hope that they maybe have a slow process.

Anyone ever been unexpectedly laid off? As in completely blindsided, was not ready at all for it? How did you bounce back?

Anyone dealt with age discrimination at work or thought they were fired because of it? I have a strong hunch I was let go because I'm older than most of the team and they're trying to get a "fresh perspective." To me it just sounds like they're firing anyone over 50.

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs. Does anyone have experience or advice?

6 months pregnant and just laid off. And 40% of my severance was just taken in taxes .. I just spoke with paid family leave and I no longer qualify even though I had been paying into the program (thanks NY).. I already applied for unemployment but doctors are telling me I’ve got 10-14 weeks left in this pregnancy.. so stressed having twins and being unemployed, no maternity leave, no paychecks coming in, and I’ve been applying but not a single interview.. just ugh. 😭

Ogilvy leadership talk alot about transparency. I would love them to put their words into action. Lauren should come out and confirm that she did not get a bonus (the sad truth of the matter is that despite layoffs, revenue and margin declines, it would not surprise me if she did). Sad state of affairs. Happy to stand corrected.

My GF has trouble standing up for herself. She's on client travel and one of her co-workers made her really upset (very uncalled for and should have never happened). She called me crying. After consoling her I told her that she needs to go to her manager and possibly HR (yes it's to that level).
She told me she can't and she's not that person (she thinks she'll get the other person fired). She knows that she should and hates that she doesn't stand up for herself. What can I do to help?

Hello - Happy Friday! I currently work in Legal & Compliance @ Morgan Stanley. For a while I have been thinking that compliance is not 100% fulfilling for me. I find my job repetitive and not as challenging as I’d like. I am a top performer and I manage several different process/initiatives on top of my base responsibilities. For the people who earned the SHRM-CP, did you feel it was worth it? I have an indirect HR position, been applying for more HR focused positions and wondering if this would help. I got the CAPM (certified associate of project management) in December, but that hasn’t really changed things. Would love some opinions before working on another certification!
