Has anybody used personal capital advisors? Is it worth it?

Some people in the personal finance bowl mentioned using them but it wasn't worth it.

Honestly just buy index funds and you'll outperform the large majority of active funds. I see no reason to pay 0.89% to underperform the market.

I do like using the app itself to manage my investments.

Ugh I’m having second thoughts after I signed up 😢 I should have known better. I lost money selling my investments to transfer my accounts over to them. They’re still processing

I tried them last year - transferred all my assets over. It was ok, but over the one year period I had three different “advisors” - the first one got promoted, the second one I spoke to once and left the company, and the third one didn’t have enough experience (I looked him up and he had less than 10 years) - I definitely did not want to entrust him with my retirement funds. I have since found someone through a personal referral that is helping me manage everything because I don’t feel confident or knowledgeable enough to navigate the complexities of tax advantage investments, when and what to buy, etc, to hit my goals.

I tried them for almost one year, but I was unhappy with having three financial advisors during that time, and each time the new advisor was less experienced than the previous advisor. You can try them out, but take a look at the advisor that is assigned to your account and just know that it will not be a personable experience. Ultimately I wanted a dedicated person who would grow with me as I navigate life and help make adjustments when needed so it wasn’t for me.

How much is your emergency fund? My husband and I are DINKS with 5K monthly expenses but (because we are very privileged) live near family who could help us if something happened. We only keep 5K in our emergency fund because I want to invest as much as I can in index funds.

New to investing. I want to open a Roth IRA and put 3000$ in to buy VTSAX. My plan after that is to contribute 200- 300$ at the end of each month. Is that how you guys do it? Do you watch the market and buy on a specific day when the market is low or do you just pick a day of the month- lets say every 30th day of the month to add to your acct? Thanks

I’m curious how much other people with similar incomes save/invest a year; I’m a 24M, making 70K a year in a HCOL city. I saved about $12K in my first year of working out of college, and I feel like that’s pretty good but I could’ve done better. My rent isn’t too pricey, but I went on 3 vacations, go out to the bars frequently, and spend pretty freely on food. Anyone care to share their income and corresponding savings for FIRE?

Anyone here retire in late 30s or know someone that has?

Do people tend to age out of wanting to FIRE?

In your 20s-30s, you don’t know much, you’re told what to do, you have few financial resources so you are tied to your job. Under these circumstances it makes perfect sense why you would want to FIRE asap.

But eventually you advance up the ladder, you are now the boss and your people do all the grunt work. You also have built up expertise which makes the job easier. And you are making the best money of your life. FIRE is no longer so pressing.

At what number do you feel like you’re making enough whether to satisfy your desires or just not feel guilty about spending money.I’ve been blessed to have my income raised a total of 85% throughout 9 years but shortly after each raise I still feel like it’s not enough to live by and that I’m always behind. I live in a high cost area and make triple of what my friends make yet it still doesn’t feel enough. Cont’d

Any market considerations before refinancing my student loan with current rates? They’re giving me a .75-1% drop.

It’s worth it to refinance at this rate to save paying $1000 of interest albeit credit gets hurt. My only concern is missing out on inevitable lower rates forthcoming.
