Im PM on a project. Sent out timeline and was approved with client multiple times. Project lead just made a decision without me to adjust my timeline for internal reasons. Kickoff to review deck was already sent with dates that had been aligned to. What’s the best way to tell client during kickoff tomorrow that the dates need to shift? I’m annoyed how sloppy this is but just need to go with it at this point. Any advice on making it not seem sloppy to client tomorrow?

How is everyone dealing with the volume of people leaving? I know in my office we are drowning due to the number of staff and seniors leaving and the volume of work coming in. Obviously there’s always turnover but it’s way more than normal and we don’t seem to be able to hire people. I feel like the audit industry is due for a big change to retain people since I think younger folks are way less willing to trade their life now for a payday later on in life.

A senior manager sent me a text today to ask if I had sent an email last week, and if not, they would send it right now. I am on PTO today. Am I wrong to feel that was not appropriate? Why couldn’t that have waited. Is it not an acceptable boundary to expect to be left alone when on PTO? How do I properly communicate that to a level above without it coming across badly?

Audit Partners — Do you see longterm profitability of audit in general? Is it going to be worth being a partner, financially, given the risk you take on, in 10-15 years? With audit bids increasingly being driven way down by competition, & lower level resources demanding (much) higher pay than it was historically, I’m not convinced the partner track is still as enticing as it was pre-Covid. Seems like the job market/higher staff pay alone has GOT to be taking a huge cut into partner pay.

I feel like managers become the “you think you have it bad, I worked way more 90 hour weeks than you” when you start talking about leaving. Just my opinion, but not going to help people stay
