Has anyone asked their firm for a new head shot? I really hate mine but don’t want to seem high maintenance

Zero qualms about asking. I looked like a blown up chubby covid balloon in my shots. I said I refused to have those picture floating on the Internet AND I’m still trying to find a husband and that picture ain’t helping. I offered to pay for the new shots, but they just let me take them again and never tried to bill me for it.

Time it for when new associates are joining the firm.

This, I snagged a new headshot when new folks were getting there’s done.

I did. I walked into my favorite partners office and said “My headshot is awful. I want a new one. Can I copy you on an email about it?” He said yes, no questions asked. Find a partner to sort of sponsor your request and you shouldn’t have a problem getting marketing on board.

I changed mine. I was three months postpartum and my face was still fat. I was back to my pre-pregnancy self a year later and ask for a redo. They were totally understanding.

Not weird at all. There is probably someone whose job it is to handle it; ask a recent lateral who coordinated their headshots and email that person asking when the next time they will have the photographer in. I don’t think they would blink an eye.

I changed mine! I joined my firm with short and dark red, curly hair and by maybe 1.5- 2 years later, I had grown out and dyed my hair blonde and wore it straight mostly so I just asked my contact in HR and had a new photo shortly thereafter!

24, a decent amount of savings in the bank. I’m sort of interested in buying a property in the next few years.
Is this a good or bad idea? I live in Ny area, so obviously the city would probably be too expensive to buy any property. Would probably have to buy further out in westchester, Long Island, maybe connecticut or NJ. If I buy, should I be living there? Or should I rent it out until I’m ready to live there (assuming it’s a bit further from the city). Very early stages of just thinking

Opinions welcomed:

V5 Legal Assistant here (2 years in industry, started at current firm in late April). I’m on pace for 2700 billable hours / year. To boot, that rate is going up because of all of the 65+ hour weeks lately, and the first month being billed around 40.

I was just told that I may not qualify for any bonuses because I haven’t been here for 1 year.

Is this normal? Am I crazy for thinking that I should be getting a *significant* bonus for all of the crazy hours and deadlines?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but I have a few former classmates and colleagues sweating over lateral interviews. Take a deep breath and relax.

First, doing these interviews does not define you as a person.

Second, take it one day at a time; if they are moving forward, they see something in you.

Third, remember that the people interviewing you are human beings. Connect with them, be personable.

Everytime I work on the weekend I get into some sort of fight with my spouse. Anyone else get annoyed when their spouse constantly asks you when you’ll be done working, or asks how much longer you have to work. It annoys the hell out of me. I don’t want be working on a Sunday anymore than my spouse wants me to be working. But I have to. I don’t need reminded that I am disappointing my family in addition to working on the weekend. So, I'm happy at my current job and have been there about 18 months. Our pay is probably 15% below market (AmLaw 100) but so are our billable requirements. An interview for another firm kind of fell into my lap, and I'm debating whether to take it just for the sake of seeing what market really is. Is there something shady about interviewing somewhere you're not totally committed to accepting an offer from?

like

I know that it likely “depends” and varies from firm to firm but does anyone have any insight on (or experience with) whether firms rely on “total billable hours” or “total billable hours credit” to determine whether hours have been met/bonus applies?
