Has anyone been asked to report a Physician in your practices every move? Let me clarify. I am a new employee. I’ve been asked to track one physician. I have to document if they want to move a patient into a new time slot or day. How long their patients are waiting to be seen. If they arrive into work more than 15 minutes after their first appointment is roomed and ready to be seen. And so on. I’m feeling very uncomfortable with this. I’m on Month two of the job. Thoughts?

No ! That is the office manager’s job

This physician is being investigated! For something! I would NOT want to be in the middle of this bc if it gets into legal territory you might’ve be required to testify and all sorts of stuff that is OUTSIDE of your pay range… ie… NOT MY JOB BRO! Also… I’m always for going above and beyond but… that’s too much. I’ve been in clinics where this was needed but another provider was asked to “oversee” and monitor. Again, I don’t know the sitch, but…. Also doesn’t seem like something that’s appropriate for. 2mo old employee…..

like

Erggg… ya that does make it tough. I would still let the office manager know it’s not appropriate for you to be one the one supervising the physician, or makes you uncomfortable .. however you feel would be the easiest wording. That should really be the responsibility of a clinically licensed person. Besides the fact that you’re busy doing your job, how can you monitor a physical when you’re not even the one that works closely with them, in and out of the rooms and during the clinical aspects of the job? You could even use the excuse that being new to that practice and trying to focus on learning the role you’re having a hard time focusing on your job and also monitoring the physician and that you’re just not able to do it and maybe the MA or someone else there can be of more assistance. Lol 🤷🏼‍♀️ I mean… point blank they shouldn’t be putting that responsibility onto the front office person… they should handling whatever issue they have with the physician in a better manner.

Sounds like the manager has a beef with this physician. Don’t allow him/her to make you do his/her dirty work; if managers want to know what’s going on in an office, they need to spend time on the floor. Also, this is NOT something you should have been asked to do; it’s cowardly and shady. And shame on him/her for not having enough respect for the doctor to not simply sit down and have a conversation about how the doc perceives her efficiency, and if he/she can help support her.

like

Is that in your job description? What do you do normally in your job role?

No! I’ve been in Healthcare 35 years. I was told in a staff mtg not to tell the Dr we were having this conversation about all the things she was doing wrong. This included the MA’s issues I had no idea they were even having. I was told by my Practice Manger “Good! That means ppl are keeping things to themselves!” It’s beyond shady. I am in this position because I wanted to slow down. I’m in my mid 50’s. But I have worked in jobs that were way above a PSR.

I don’t think it’s too much of a worry. It sounds like the practice wants to get a better idea of this physicians workflow to improve patient access and efficiency. Have you talked to your other coworkers about it to see if they’ve done that before?

What an uncomfortable position to be in! Sounds like they have noticed inconsistencies with this physician or received reports or simply want this person gone. It is unfair to involve an employee in HR issues though and put you in the middle of something that will likely not end well.
