Brag about something you’re proud of, however small
So....is this accurate? 😂
Ignorance is bliss.
Your partner may or may not get over it, but the question is, will you? What led to it happening in the first place? Will the guilt drag you back down to that place or self-pity where cheating again seems like an acceptable idea? Are there bigger issues at play...?
Ah, ok, so it’s something from the past that’s still eating at you? I (falsely) assumed it was something recent.
I’m no therapist, but I’ve gone through the experience of causing damage in relationships...
- Ask yourself how you would feel if it was in reverse?
- “Play the tape out”, and imagine what would happen if you were to confess, and be ready for any response. You have to be ok with them saying, “FU, I’m out”.
-Write down on a piece of paper what you would say to them and seal it in an envelope. Then let it sit for a week. You’ll either know if you should give it to them, or if you should burn it and let it go. Forever.
-We all deserve honesty, but the past is the past. Regret and depression from something that’s history is stealing your enjoyment of the now, so in some ways you’re still negatively impacting your significant other.
-Not sure if you’re religious or spiritual, but work on forgiving yourself. We’re all imperfect human beings and we make mistakes. We’re only as sick as our secrets, so telling someone is important, but make sure you’re ready for some difficult times is you decide to make that someone your significant other.
I did everything you just said, they forgave me, then months later I cheated again.
And then what happened? Do they know?
Everyone is different and some people truly never get over being cheated on. A question to ask yourself is why tell them at all? Would it be to unburden yourself and feel better? Or is so they can have the full picture and honestly decide whether they want you in their life anymore? Maybe something else. Even if you can’t be fully honest with them, you can be honest with yourself and work from there.
