Yeah have had a few colleagues do this. Everyone just assumed they were on a project that required all their time.

D1 I’mnot sure how you mean ghost. I’ll be hitting the bench soon and I’m going to take it then. 4-5 months. And thank you, I’m leaning towards taking it versus jumping into the next one head first without clearing all my issues

Frankly who gives a shit. Your life is way more important, and if you find yourself surrounded by people who care about this, it’s not a healthy environment. Sidenote, to most people it’s an administrative difference that’s all. Value your health first; then worry about the career perceptions.

Thanks P1, makes me feel better coming from the top! I’ll take the leave and see how it’s perceived upon return and move as necessary

I’m a BA at McK who is considering medical school (have an acceptance + full tuition scholarship at a mid-tier MD school). Major part of my rationale is that I don’t see many of the routes available to me (e.g., commercial side of life sciences, PE, consulting) as driving innovation or contributing much to society. At the same time, I value compensation which made me cross out the PhD + academia route back in college. Cont. below…

Why do people think $100k is a high salary in 2021? Intellectually we understand that inflation continually reduces the purchasing power of each dollar, but emotionally we seem stuck to this specific dollar figure being the line for struggling banking comfortable.

My sister is against getting a vaccine, and I'm worried for her. Her reasoning seems to be based on conspiracy-theory-esque extrapolations on research conducted on mRNA vaccines & efficacy ("it will affect my fertility" and "there are treatments that are much more effective than a vaccine"). Is there anything I can/ should do? I really worry that she'll get sick, and that she reads/ believes too much internet crud. But I completely get it's her choice and don't want to push her away

I honestly struggle with the politics of Afghanistan. It does appear that after 20 years we leave and within months it goes back to very similar or on its way. It’s not the US job to be the world police we did try to build coalitions and fail at the end of the day unless we’re willing to keep troops there forever which most Americans don’t want to I am not sure what the right thing to do is. And I’m sick of criticism just for the sake of the president. I don’t think there’s a perfect solution

Is my complete lack of motivation to do any work and be on any deal or honestly just not work in general a symptom of burnout of my firm or depression? I have admittedly had a tough couple years (infertility, multiple surgeries, sick/terminal parents, and the loss of my son late into pregnancy) but this feeling has been around for a while now. I just don’t want to be employed anymore. I wish that were an option but we have bills, obviously.

I think I might be depressed. I don’t want to go back to normal society where we’re in the office. But I’m sick of staying here at home, chained to a desk and feeling the harshness of our industry through a screen all day with no one to commiserate with. I feel trapped between realities

My SO dresses okay most of the times but there have been numerous times that the pants are ill fitting or without a belt and this ends up in his ass crack showing significantly in nice restaurants, in front of family and friends and it gets very embarrassing - people have noticed for sure and I’ve given him this feedback for the past 1-1.5 years It still keeps happening; I even got him Lulu’s ABC pants but he’s not gotten around to alter them or make an effort Any advice on this?
