Has anyone considered doing a part time MBA while still working in consulting? Or if you know of anyone who has done it? Want to understand if it’s a good or bad idea. Thank you in advance 🙏🏽.

I’ve never seen it. I cannot imagine a scenario in which an Asc could make that work, unless they opted to do something like Take Time and worked at 50% capacity for the duration (for 50% of their salary). It would be extremely challenging to staff that person… so I would be surprised if they were OK with this. Happy for someone with more knowledge to correct me here - this is based on what I’ve seen in the last 3yrs. I think that they will allow business analysts to go back full time (and cover the cost if they come back). At the ASC level, i can’t imagine a part-time MBA does much for you or the firm.

I did an exec MBA. Was going full time and found out I made Manager the summer before I left. Not really worth it imo I got a slight bump but nothing like full time MBAs

At Accenture, MBA salary only applies below a manger level. After manager it’s all the same

It’s not always worth it. Biggest consideration is if you’ll really be that much better off after. It’s a lot of stress, work, and $. You often progress just as much by sticking with company and growing (without spending on a degree) If you’re early in career it’s you can skip a few years and will be considered by more employers (I.e. MBB), but after a certain YOE you can usually apply to the same roles an MBA can

I did it as a senior associate, helped to credential myself to manager (I'm now a director). Happy to discuss pros and cons if you want to DM me

I knew people in my program who did. Almost all left consulting within the first year (or went local-model). I only knew 2 who stayed.

Yea… I’ve considered the thought of going to industry for a bit

It depends on type of firm. If you are at a strategy consulting firm, it’s very very difficult (if not impossible). If you are at B4, then you can do it

Do it! It’s a great credential and you’ll have it for the rest of your life

I did it, and it was exhausting but rewarding. I looked forward to my Saturday classes for some intellectual stimulation after the mindless drone work as a Technology focused manager. I paid it out of pocket, and while it took a lot out of me personally, financially and mentally, I am glad I did it.
